Happy Anniversary to you and the misses... That's a fine gift! Those 1895's are SHOOTers! I have had 4 of them and still have two (1895CB & 1895GS) and they just shoot and stack bullets on top of each other. I've made some "know it alls" at the range scratch their heads and, lose some $$ to me, saying it wouldn't shoot for beans, seeing how it was a levergun and they aren't accurate.. They lost! Good luck with yours. Put up a report once you get her out dancing. BigBore44

Congrats you crazy kids! How many years? Those 1895's are SHOOTers! I have had 4 of them and still have two (1895CB & 1895GS) and they just shoot and stack bullets on top of each other. Factory or handloads?

Great gift! I just ordered a 1895 GBL and should have it later next week. So far, what is your impression of the new "Remlins"?

Marlin 1895 SBL in .45-70! It's fun to shoot and pretty accurate. I already added a the threaded Ghost Ring aperture and bought some apertures of varying size. This is my new camp rifle. One issue was the stock fit, which was a little off. Oh well. You married better than she did..........lol

Factory or handloads? Actually both. I've only tried a couple types of factory loads: Rem 405's nice easy shootin ammo, and gets the job done nicely. Hornady LeverEvo gummy tips, I don't use/trust these for huntin but shot good. Garrett HammerHead's 420gr +p Shot very good as well and have good Thump on Both ends I load my home cast 430gr WFNPB (Piledriver Jr. copy) from an Accurate mold 46/430V over Don't Quote me here! (iirc off top of my head?) 14.5gr Universal for a pleasant shootin/killin load. I don't own a chrony yet so don't know the vel? It's really accurate and, it folds Bambi's like Thors Hammer! I have other loads worked up but this is a mainstay for my 1895 Cowboy and 1895GS. Just a pleasant and useful load IMO... Works for me. Anyone want to guesstimate velocity of this load? 14.5gr Universal under a 430gr WFNPB, in either an 18.5" bbl or 26" bbl. Enjoy that new camp gun. She's a Beauty... BigBore44

The action is incredibly smooth. I was honestly surprised by that. The trigger has a crisp release but is WAY too heavy! Still, with good control, no biggie. The accuracy so far has been pretty good at 25 yards or less. I haven't put targets up any farther to test them yet. However, my range has steel at 200 yards. A few test shots to get the idea of where to hold the sight and I could ping the steel!

Earlier this fall, I had the oppertunity to work up a load and shoot one identical to that for about a week. Was a quick handy rifle, shot well enough, recoil was stout with top end loads. But for a back country camp/defense gun, I think its hard to beat. FWIW I shot cast only , would like to experiment futher someday a greater variety of bullets.

very nice... looks a lot like mine ( only mine has a ported barrel & walnut stocks )
My wife would never buy me a gun... I did get a sterling 45 Colt cartridge one year for Christmas, back when I was buying a lot of silver...
