Hi there. I might be getting a 414 Supermag Contender, and I was curious if anyone had any load data for using Unique (my preferred powder). I know its probably not optimal, but I like that there are recipes for all sorts of rounds using Unique. I'm curious if it might work in this instance.
I'll also be in need of 10-30 pieces of brass if anyone has some extra they'd like to sell. Unfortunately I can't afford a box of 250, and I don't get to go shooting enough to necessitate that many pieces.
And also, I can load them with a set of standard 41 Mag dies correct...?
Any additional info is appreciated. Thanks. -K

Yes you can load them with 41 mag dies.
If you still need brass I can send you some.
Write alliant powder and ask them for loads. I wrote Western powders and got suggested loads for 1680 and 4100. I use 1680 in 357 max. Both my 414 and 357 max are encores.

Couldn't find any Unique loads, I couldn't find any 414 loads on Loaddata.com as a matter of fact, but this was an interesting article. www.lasc.us/rangingshotdw414sm.htm

Thanks. -K *** What do you want a .414 Super Mag for, if not velocity or the ability to shoot heavy bullets fast? If your purchase is preconditioned on Unique powder, don’t buy the gun. You’ll hand grenade the gun before reaching top velocity with Unique. If, on the other hand, you’re content with “.41 Special” loads in .41 Mag brass, Unique will suffice. Do not take the loopy trajectory as a pretext to hotrod Unique----or any other medium burn rate handgun powder in with .414 or .445 Super mag, or the parent .357 Maximum. David Bradshaw

It has not been ran with Unique, I was just curious as I have a few pounds of Unique laying around and wondered if anyone had any experience. I've heard there are Unique loads for almost any round, but it may be lackluster results.

There is really no difference between using Unique in a .41 Magnum compared to a .414 SM. Unique is used for Target to higher end Mid-range loads...anything beyond that a much slower burning powder should be used.
In .41 Magnum 10 grains of Unique with a 220 grain bullet is generally consider a maximum charge. Velocity from a 4" revolver is in the 1200 fps range. With the extra case capacity that is where I would start with the .414.
I have a TC Encore barrel in .405 Winchester which is just a much larger .41 caliber case that has a slight taper. Have used Unique in it with great accuracy and zero pressure sighs.
285 grain Cast RN: 12.0/1240 fps 13.0/1371 fps 14.0/1386 fps 15.0/1398 fps
Although I have never used Unique in it I also have a TC Contender barrel in .41/.445 SM which I would start with 10.0 grains and a 255 grain bullet...
If however you want top end loads go with H110 or AAC-1680...
