I have a Ruger Black Hawk in .44 special, Red Dot Powder, and 250 grn Keith SWCs. If I load 6 grains of Red Dot under this bullet, will this load get me safely into the mid-800fps range? Thanks for the help.

That sounds about right, shot a lot of that load and it was accurate and pleasant to shoot for sure...

My old Hercules booklet shows 6 gr of Red Dot with a 246 gr lead bullet at 800 FPS from a 5.6 in barrel, so you are right in the ballpark.

This load with a 255 grain NOE SWC (sorry, I don't recall the mold number) sized to 0.431" with a WLPP and Starline brass makes 930 fps in my 5.5" NMFTBH. Your experience may vary. 5.3 - 5.4 grains got me closer to 850 fps. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. I will be shooting the 250 grain SWC from a 4 5/8" NMFTBH. I am looking for a load that has just a bit more oomph than the standard loading in the mid-700 FPS range.

www.goodrichfamilyassoc.org/44_Special_Articles/Brian%20Pearce%20on%20the%2044%20Special.pdf Handloader magazine #236 Aug/Sept 2005 This is the article for 44sp, Brian Pearce says Red Dot and 5.3gr get 827fps, from 6.5" Smith Triple Lock. His loads are pretty accurate for velocities in my experience. I have shot a lot of the 5.5-6.0gr loads when I first started loading for the 44sp, I reach for W231 or HP38 most of the time for mild target loads today, not because it is any better, its just my go to target powder...

I wish! I have not seen 2400 in my neck of the woods for over a year.

You will also want to check out Handloader No. 260 June 2009, Another fine Brian Pearce article that deals exclusively with the Lipsey's Ruger 44 Special Flattops. Found several good loads for both of mine there.
