Well I finally shot my Buckeye today, the 10mm was nothing great. But I was really looking to see what the 38WCF would do, I was not disappointed. The first load was 175gr FN hardcast using 8grs of HP-38 , Mike V. in handloader stated 6.7grs was his favorite go to load in a colt saa, police positive, etc Knowing HP 38 usually shines at around max loads and being a strong BH I went to 8 to start, see below pic 10 shots @25yds. with me shaking slightly from muscle atrophy I still need PT for my shoulder & bicep muscle from surgery. The next loads up were "ruger only" 38wcf, I went with 18grs of 2400, using the same 175gr FN and 180 xtp. Each 5 shot group had 1 flyer which in checking the cylinder throats, 2 were tighter than the rest so may have to open up them later. Definetly a difference in recoil and sound, still to me not bad, hot 41 or 44 is more but different with that 40cal slugs. I like this caliber, very versatile. Did notice some case set back but not enough to lock up the cylinder and the cases were fine, no flattened primers, cases mainly dropped easy , couple had a note of stickiness but nothing to speak on, chambers need to be clean & degreased with cases of this design as always for best functioning. Now to tighten up the Buckeye's action, I have a #5 belt mtn pin but also will be fitting an oversized PC cyl latch as well.

Looks great, you will use up a lot of time trying to come up with something better than the first load you tried.

With a little tweeking I can get the xtp's tighter at 18grs there fun. Leading is evident with the 18grs 2400 with 175 lead FN bullet. I just fitted an oversized cylinder latch and now she locks up like a bank vault.

Looks good. I sent my .38-40 cylinder off to Bowen and had the chamber mouths opened a tad. They were just stupid tight, are now uniform at .401 inch.

Yeah it's just the 2, I'll rent the reamer, its a small enough job, I could have bought the reamer and pilots last year cheap still kick myself for not.
