Although I kinda question the need to go over 255 grains in a .41 Magnum I do have three molds that throw bullets up to 300 grains... Left is a Mountain Mold that I bought from Magnum Mike over on the Specialty Pistol Forum many years ago...it has been an excellent shooting bullet in the 5-shot .41s when one really wants a heavy... It weights 303 grains. With 19.0 grains of H110 they run 1267 from a 6" FA 83.. ..and very accurate at 100 yards... Center is a LEE Custom mold that one of the members here sells. All ready to shoot it weighs 267 grains. Have shot them with 22.0 grains of H110 but not across the chronograph yet...I will be backing the load down 1.0 grains.. Right is a MeHic TruShot clone with Penta-Point cavity. It weighs in at 260 grains. Have also shot this bullet with 21.0 gr. of H110 but not clocked it yet...was very accurate. The Sectional Density of a 265 .41 is 0.224 which is about the same as a 290 grain .44 or a 325 grain .45. The 300 .41 is 0.253 which equates to a 330 grain .44 or a 370 grain .45...so the solids are going to pass through most anything they hit... As to the TruShot PP...this a 214 Keith PP run through a paper milk carton and then plastic milk jugs of water. I expect the TruShot at a higher velocity to do more damage and penetrate even more..... Bob

No, the SSK design is more conical on the top and doesn't have a very big meplat. If you want to see what it looks like Penn Bullets sells a copy of it. This is more of a LBT style bullet.

got ya, I have the penn ssk bullet. the only reason I ask is that the top picture you can see a slight angle, especially the bullet on the right that makes it kind of look like that bullet

Shot some of the 300s yesterday at 50 and 100 yards. The 50 yard targets were milk jugs and at 100 steel gongs... Gongs were 20", 12", 8" and 4" from the seated backrest position. Of 15 rounds fired at 100 only two were misses on the 4"... Thinking about making this the standard load for this gun instead of the 265s...

Groo here Just remember the SSK bullets were made to be accurate and hit hard on steel. And drive deeply on the biggest game [elephant ,rino, hippo etc] The meplat controls how deep the bullet will drive on such game, so a smaller one maybe better. Ps that "small" meplat is the same size or larger than the 240gr Keith SWC. [starting at 41 and going up]

I have an old article around here about Larry Kelly hunting buffalo in Australia. I believe he was using that bullet in a .411 JDJ. He was happy with the penetration but was somewhat concerned about the lack of "shock"...
