My last experience with these was about 45 years ago, a 7 1/2" Iver Johnson in 357. It shot fine and was well regulated enough that I killed a bunch of squirrels with 38 wadcutters... knocked them outta the tree like they'd been hit with a pool cue.
I'm looking hard at a 4 3/4" Ranch Hand in 45 Colt and would like some feedback from any of you folks who have an Uberti in that caliber. I am particularly interested in how close your sights were regulated and if yours prefer .452 or .454 bullets.
I also see Uberti offers a Cattleman II with an elaborate linkage through the hammer that locks the firing pin in place when the trigger is pulled. Might be the greatest thing since sliced bread but I'll let somebody else be the beta tester for that.
Thanks in advance for your input.

FWIW I have an el Patron in 45 Colt. Sights are very close. Throats are around .453. It is an all round slick little gun. Shoots better than I can and is a fun companion to my Lightning clone. The heavy work is relegated to my BH Bisley and Redhawk.

Uberti guns are usually closer to being sighted than any fixed sight Ruger. Not familiar with the Ranch Hand model, but have had several newer one in the last few years, pretty good guns. I think the internals may not be as robust as a Ruger or even a Colt for that matter. If a guy wants to shoot one all day long he might be replacing some parts. YMMV.

I've had a couple of Vaquero 45's over the years. One was real close for sight regulation and the other was a good 4" left at 25 yards, nearly off the paper at 50. I'm not afraid to go hammer & tongs on them to correct sight regulation. I'm not a CAS or other high volume shooter. I tend to concentrate my SA practice on precision as opposed to volume, though I will do some fast/close work with any gun I'm going to carry. My most-used single action at present is the old 1860 in my avatar. It was kind of a wreck when I got it, so the insides of a Colt clone are pretty familiar to me. I generally run a music wire bolt/trigger spring in them and I keep spare cylinder hand springs.

I have had a 45 Colt Cattlemen steel 7 1/2", shot to point of aim at 25yds. Better than the 4 Ruger Vaqueros I wrestled with to try to get to shoot that good. I'm shooting 270SAA cast bullets from a Mihec mold, all sized at .452 I sold that one to finance a first year 336 Marlin. I kept a Uberti Birdshead in 45 Colt 3 1/2" because it is so handy...and, just as, if not more accurate. I personally will not have another Vaquero, the Uberti is that good. Both guns were fitted very well and very tight. I won't be shooting volume out of these, but some do. I also have a Cimarron 44 special 7 1/2",made by Uberti same deal. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks Joe, much appreciated. The gun will shot plenty until it's proven and then carried more or less continuously, where the Colt size and weight shines. I'm a little tempted to order a snazzier model, but it would just end up looking like this after mowing 25 acres on an old open Ford tractor.

Sarge, I run .452 in mine. Usually shoot the 255 rnfp but it shot the 270saa well the other day. Nice tight little gun.

I found a good deal on a 4 5/8" blue New Vaquero and bought it for about the same money I'd have put in a Ranch Hand. Not to say I won't get an Uberti later and I thank you all for your input.

The reviews on the Piettas sure seem to vary. Looks like you either get a good one, or not, if you know what I mean.

My preference for Uberti over Pietta is based solely on my experience with black powder revolvers by each and replacement parts made by both, used to rebuild them.
