Well, I figured I would update everyone on my grip search.
I was sent a set of grips to try that were roughed together for a #5 gripframe. They did not fit, which was unusual because the frame they were roughed out to had a perfect fit.
Next, I bought the Powers grips right from the website. They are CNC'd to be something like .005 bigger so they could be properly fitted. NOPE!, again my gripframe is such that in order for it to work I would have had to grind down some of the steel on the gripframe to fit the frame to the grips, not the opposite. Well, if I am going to do that I would have it sent out to a professional and might just as well have grips made for my frame (The Powers grips are now for sale if anyone is interested) I called Powers and they said the grips fit their gripframes with no issue. SO!, I have a misfit gripframe that any standard #5 grips won't fit.
A generous member offered for me to try some TLA #5 grips.....nope, but he sent me an awesome piece of wood that I am going to use to have grips made sometime after the New Year.
Along comes another extremely generous member of this fine forum that offered up a "misfit pair" that he had been playing around with and did I want them.
Well, I figured I would give them a shot. Sure enough, not a good fit.......again. Man my gripframe must be a one of a kind.
BUT, I made them work and will have a set made up after the New Year when the hunting seasons are over and I can relinquish the gun to the long wait of our esteemed gunsmith or grip maker. A few pics to show the grips a member generously donated. (I won't mention his name as I did not ask if I could but if he wants to pipe in, I would appreciate it.)
Here they are.
And here are the unfinished Powers grips. The wood grain is beautiful and will really come out when they are finished. If anyone is interested in them, shoot me a PM.
So all in all, my gripframe is.....unique and non standard. But this is one awesome forum with a bunch of stand up gentlemen willing to give a hand to get me back in action. I thank you all!!!
