Brand new 66 went back to Smith & Wesson

I've been so pleased with my Smith model 69 that I decided to get its twin in .357 for a pair of "Combat Magnums". Ordered it online and had it shipped to my drug dealer (actual pharmacy believe it or not)for pick up. I noticed right off that the barrel (shroud) was canted to the left which gives you a crooked front sight and the lines from the shroud to the top of the frame don't line up, now I could've refused it and had my guy send it back for a replacement from Bud's but his prices are so low and the little assistant is so cute that you just hate to make a fuss. No biggie, figured I'd take it for a test drive and see if anything else popped up to have looked into. I'm being a little sneaky, I'm actually a little happy the shroud is canted because now Smith will pay the two way shipping for my trigger job from the Performance Center.

Called the nice folks at Smith today and got the prepaid label emailed, drove down to FedEx and sent it right off with no problem. Customer service is a beautiful thing, that's why I buy Smiths and Rugers and while I haven't had the need I'm certain that Freedom Arms would match them. I've no doubts that Smith will take care of the issue and it'll be back soon. I'll update as soon as it returns.

66 is on top of the 69 and both are wearing their Ahrends grips. The ones on the 66 used to be on the 69 but I thought maybe a tad bigger grip would help a little with the .44.

I love my Model 69 sorry to hear that the 66 wasn't up to snuff. I had the grips that are on your 66 now on my 69 for a while but shooting full house magnums with those grips was a moment to remember! Went to the Hogue RB K/L grips for the 69 and now it is it's old pleasant self again!

I'm totally happy with the 69, with moderate loads the original Ahrends are fine as well as the occasional hot round or two. Jury is still out on the new set of Ahrends, feel a little blocky but it may just be me.

The 66 was going back anyway for a trigger job as I've been wanting to see if they do a decent job, so I'm not out anything if it comes back fixed. Time will tell.

Thanks Andrew, the new Smiths aren't for everyone but I'm liking these quite a bit.
