I own 4 Ruger SR 1911's in different configurations, and like them all. I had Leonard Baitty install a short trigger in the earliest one, when he did a trigger job for me, and two of the others also required trigger jobs, but nothing else. My favorite is the Lightweight Cmdr, which did not require trigger work. I like the polished Titanium feed ramp, the striations / grooves on the front of the grip frame, and the thin grip panels. This particular one is also quite accurate. The single thing that I don't like about these guns, is also prevalent on most 1911's made today: The "shelf" thumb safety intended for those who shoot with a high thumb resting on it. I 've been shooting with a turned-down thumb for over 56 years, have never failed to engage the grip safety, and I ain't gonna change. One day, I may change all of these out to the original Colt style.
Although you say you don't like the Target rear sight, I think that the 5" Range Officer is also in the "Best Buy" category, partly because of that adjustable sight.

Think you'll enjoy SA's 'Range Officer'. I've got one and it's done everything you'd want a .45acp to do without any 'tinkering'.

FWIW I'd buy my aftermarket Hammer/Trigger/disconnector/spring sets from a well established entity. Cylinder and Slide markets some fine sets in multiple trigger weights. I run them in my fun guns. For my competition paper punching guns I run KC Crawford's roll trigger kit. A little more money but you know you have the absolute best.

A cherry used 45 ACP Springfield Compact RO caught my eye. If the employee price saves me a little it just might be mine! Some 30 LPI front strap checkering, round butting, and a spring kit and I could be somebody,,..

Glad the Rowland conversion worked, I did one on a Glock 45 and it kept tearing up the magazines. Loved the cartridge, but i reverted back to 45 in the glock. Have a 10mm glock now. I have a kimber tle2 and a colt both full size. Kimber feels more substantial and has a better trigger. I prefer the colt, ran like the wind out of the box and could care less about brand of mag. Purchased within last two years series 80. Kimber required a 150 rounds to break in and can occasionally be fussy.

For concealed carry, I like the s&w 1911sc pretty well. Normally, more than that, but I saw it for 9xx on buds once.

New Colts I have seen and shot have been very nice. I have one of the short run CCGs from TALO. Great 1911. The Colt Competition with the blue grips looks like a great 1911 as well. If you don't like the grip shape, that is a simple, inexpensive swap. I say Colt, with the Range Officer a close second. Now if you could save up a few extra bones...Dan Wesson should be a big consideration.

I gotta get you guys some pics, but this Range Officer is a KNOCKOUT! Outta the box, accuracy is off the hook and the reliability is 100% so far in 175 rounds! I've tried the stock Springfield mags, my Chip McCormick mags, my Wilson Combat mags, and even my RIAs stock mag and have had nothing but perfect performance! Yes sir, this is one hell of gun 😁

Excellent! The slide to frame and barrel lockup are what impresses me most about the RO. We like to pull out the innards from the mainspring housing and put standard parts and springs in them. Makes life much easier if you want to run a different mainspring.

I've read lots of positive reviews of that pistol.
