I bought a bunch of once fired brass and this was in with them. Anyone have an idea what it is? Looks like the piece of plastic is crimped in. Has these markings, 9mm, 96, IVI Ronnie

Simunitions are kinda fun to train with, but they're only primer powered. Not usually a big problem with a handgun, but I've had to remove multiple projectiles from their M4 conversion barrels on multiple occassions. The primer doesn't always get the projo out of the barrel, and folks are inclined to keep on shooting anyway...

Squawberryman, that looks like some sim type rounds I came across down in Santa Fe years ago training at the old prison. They shot BBs instead of paint.

Fanofthe41, that is simply a case made by IVI in the year stamped. IVI is either Canadian or Israeli. Can't remember offhand. Obviously the case has been moded to something else. Kind of like me shooting gluelets in the winter when I get excessively bored.

HIJACK: Then what's this? Lettering says RH UTM 9mm Same thing, different system. My range is littered with .223 cases like that. They have a little plastic "cage" style bullet with powder in it. When it fires it telescopes.

The top plastic tip is full of colored chalk or similar, it and the small metal tip come out. When it fires it telescopes. Looks to be powered by a .22 blank a similar. On a slightly related note, 40mm practice rounds look like they're powered by a .38 special blank, though I've yet to cut one open to see how long the case is.
