Reuben.J.Cogburn showed his well worn Ruger. www.rugerforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=241227 Actually, to continue the thought, I just might come close to having enough field time to get a gun and holster to look like that. Which I would love to do! But in order to do that, there needs to be one gun you reach for on EVERY occasion. I split my time between my .44 special for deer and larger game, my .32 mag for running rabbits with the beagles, squirrels with the cur, coyote and just cooler weather field carry, and my single six .22 for summer backpacking and horse riding. occasionally the .357 gets the nod too. There are times the Glock is a close companion as well. With the time split between the 5, the wear is also. I'd like to hand a well worn gun and holster to my son when I am old and crotchety that he remembers as the "one" dad always had with him. So, which gets the nod for constant carry? I'm thinking the .32 If I could carry it enough and make memories like Reuben and a lot of you others have with yours, it would be worthy to hand down to him. But My Harton .44 special is my carry for deer season....A simply beautiful work of art that has taken NY deer and AZ bobcat And my Single six rides so well on a Barranti holster on my chinks when on the horse.... And my .357 has spent time briefly roaming the hills of Wyoming.... Then there is the 5.5" SBH I have that would love to get some time in the field And I am always on the lookout for an OM .357 with a 6.5" barrel! Ain't it great to be in a country where this dilemma can actually occur? But seriously folks, This would be a great conversation topic, chime in with your thoughts!! Pics are always welcome. Oh, pics are mandatory? ?? OK, here we go Single Six .32 Mag. I took off the sheephorn and have regular wood Ruger grips on it now. .44 special I'm pretty sure no one wants to see a Glock on this forum.

Hey Rob,
I hope you can do it buddy, but I sure couldn't limit myself to one.
Skeeter left a handful of sixguns to Bart and I'm pretty sure Bart appreciates every one of them for the stories and history they each have when they were carried by his father. I'm thinking you'd have that same situation covered if you merely printed out the above and place the page in the safe with the handguns mentioned. Even better yet, as your son rides/hunts with you, I'm sure he'll have fond memories of what you carried and when you used it.
That said, I know where you're coming from and am looking forward to hearing other folk's thoughts and stories. My quest for the "one" has lead me to a "group" of nice handguns that overlap quite and bit and could easily cover what you speak of individually, but each piece brings me joy in different ways whenever I handle, carry and shoot them. A big part of each of their histories was the fun in the chase and the varied stories of how they were finally found and secured.
Good discussion topic and I wish you all the luck in the world my friend,
Mike

Some Great lookin shootin irons you have there! I hear what you're saying about a well used gun. I too like that look. I'm a believer of the saying "bring/use enough gun" and its also becoming a favorite, so I vote for your beautiful Bisley 44spl... The 32 is also a favorite of mine, but if you go through with what you want to do, the 44 is more rounded IMO You could always get a double rig and have'em both on and at hand Probably didn't help you none but, that's my. 02 Another option is to send me the 44spl and I can help get some wear on her for ya.... Just trying to help a fellow shooter Where abouts in NY do you live /hunt? Ray BigBore44

The bug for the .327 and .41 mag has never hit me. As far as anything heavier than my .44 mag. No way! I am wound up like a steel spring, the recoil of my .44 mag is bad enough for my flinch, anything bigger would probably have me throwing the gun forward and out of my hands!!! BigBore44, I am in CNY. South of Syracuse and North of Cortland NY. No double rigs for me and as far as sending you the .44 special to put some hours on it!! Ain't gonna happen Stump Buster....How have you been buddy!!! Sounds like you are accumulating a great herd of sixguns!! "Skeeter left a handful of sixguns to Bart and I'm pretty sure Bart appreciates every one of them for the stories and history they each have when they were carried by his father. I'm dreading the day he goes to college, we do everything together. Hunt, fish, camp, ride....... At 15, I am running short on time but enjoying every minute.

Robster Well heck you don't have to send it to me, I could just come up and pick it up if that's easier!? Lol I'm also (UNFORTUNATELY) in NY. I used to live near Ithaca in Freeville, but now live near West Point military academy.
Thanks Ray BigBore44

I'm not far from Freeville. Our large animal vet comes up from Groton.
I have family in Florida NY and Middletown NY. I went to high school in Westchester county and used to ride my motorcycle up 9 to the bear mountain bridge and over the mountain to where 17 goes into 87. Beautiful area, just too many people.

I remember a little candy store in Moravia I believe, you could get cheese covered mealworms perty tasty little buggers lol. You probably know Black Rock gun club than? It's near Cornwall area on Rt 32 If you get down this here way, give me a shout. Maybe we could meet up or something. Maybe meet at Gander...? Ray

Let's get back to the OP I would carry that 44 SPL if it is accurate. And,,,, I would have minimum of 2 loads for it and maybe 3 different loads so that with the versatility,,, it would become a gun for more seasons. By the way I do like that gun it is a fine looking specimen. Now I can remember a few special occasions too, that me or someone else had their favorite pistol and some particular critter was disposed of in a spectacular fashion. This seems to me more than anything else something that children and friends relate to. Sort of like Stump Buster said also.

That 44spl is beautiful!, I hunted for 25 years with handguns in NYS, I know where your located, about the only area in NY where bobcats are legal to hunt. I used to hear them in the southern zone & track them occasionally, I know they saw me, but I didn't see them I used 44mag primarily, then 41 & 45colt, the least was 357. I took big NY deer from 15 to over 100 yards. Never had to track one, the 44 hits like a sledgehammer, my loads were hot not because of the deer or bear I hunted but bc I needed less drop to shoot 100-150yds with an SA. My first handgun deer was between 40-50yards and live weight was over 200LBS, 9 pointer, would have been a ten but lost one fighting during the rut I would guess by the look of it. It's tough to pick one or carry one all the time, I couldn't do it, but again I wouldn't want to I love all my different hunting handguns for different reasons and they make their own stories for me. Bigbore44, definitely next time I head down I will give you a shout. Cherokeetracker, good point on having several loads worked up for it jimtx, yup, i saw one a couple months ago when headed up the hill out o the valley i live in. a friend and I are trying to get a few hounds started for running bobcat up in the ADK's I traditionally only hunt with the handgun anymore. deer and cottontail primarily. usually use my TC Encore with a 12" .410 barrel on rabbits. except when hunting snowshoe hare up north, then i take the 12 gauge
