I really like the idea of the sp101 with the 4.2" barrel but really dislike the front sight. Does anyone know if that front sight is interchangeable with a different front sight ? It's really the only reason I haven't bought this gun.

I wish someone had given you an answer here. I just bought one and would sure like a black blade to replace the FO. I'm going to take it to my gunsmith if I can't find something. I'm sure he can make me one.

If there is a pin crossways thru the front sight mount just below the blade, you can change it. Contact someone like Dawson for F/O for instance. Nephew has a 3" SP101 here right now with a pinned front sight so..Luck.

Steve it is a FO on a dovetail base so I'm sure a replacement could be easily made but I haven't had any luck finding any. I am going to shoot as is for a while, who knows I may end up liking the fiber optic bead.

The fiber optic took a bit of getting used to. But, that's because I was shooting paper or clays from a bench.
Once I started carrying the gun in the woods, it became a favorite.
The SP is especially interesting to me. I long seat bullets and taper crimp. Just like a double action rimmed 30 Carbine. Wish they'd make a 6" version.

Good to know Encore64, maybe I'll warm up to it. Still haven't shot mine yet but after I put a few hundred through it I'll probably have some questions about the proper feeding of this babe. I bought it and a 5 1/2" Single Seven at the same time and other than a slightly proud grip frame and what appears to me (just eyeballing) to be a fairly generous BC gap on the S7 I have been very pleased with the fit and finish on both of these guns. I just hope they turn out to shoot as good as they look.

Went and shot the SP101 a week or so ago and then shot it and the 5 1/2" Single Seven yesterday. The only .327 loaded ammo I could find was the Federal American Eagle 100 grain SPs. They are a little too hot, even at 40 degrees ambient temperature in the SP 101. Didn't put either gun on paper, just plinking at rocks, cans and targets of opportunity. They both seemed to shoot the load fine but the SP 101 was giving very sticky extraction with the American Eagle. They didn't quite fall out of the chambers of the Single Seven but were easy to push out with the ejector rod. I'm really liking both platforms and will be looking even harder for a 7 1/2" Single Seven.

Dawson has non-F/O blades too.

I'm really liking both platforms and will be looking even harder for a 7 1/2" Single Seven. DD- In November I bought a new 4" SP101 to add to my growing .327 collection. It has proven quite accurate from the start; practical accuracy is outstanding. I think much of this is due to the front sight, at least for me as it's easy for my eyes to acquire. I did manage a couple of sub 6" group at 25 yards offhand using one of my hand loads of 2400 and 100gr XTP's. This really says a lot for the gun and not the shooter! Like you I had sticky extraction with hotter loads, including AE 100gr and the hand loads mentioned. However it was only one chamber exibiting the issue, all others would nearly fall out. I sent it to Ruger and had it back in 9 days with a new cylinder. Problem solved with no other issues. Easy extraction with all loads and accuracy is as mentioned. I really like this revolver. If I could change anything it would be a smoother/easier/lighter double action and a reshaped hammer. Sometimes my thumb has a tendency to slip off when firing single action.

Mine doesn't have too bad of a trigger. I have a spring set here to swap into it, I'm thinking just a 10# main spring and leaving the stock trigger return spring for now but I'll wait to see if mine also needs a new cylinder. It shot really well with some 98 grain SWC .32 H&R Mag loads I had. I am liking the front sight more than I thought I would.

I saw on another forum that the front sights for the SR9C would be a direct replacement for the .327 Sp101 sight. I have neither gun but thought the information might be helpful.
