I was going to load up some 22 hornets today and realized I am out of small rifle primers. Anyone using pistol primers in the hornet with Lil gun.

Speer's reloading book states the most current data was using CCI 500 standard pistol primers, more efficient and less pressure than small rifle primers. So yes you can use small pistol primers generally with better results than small rifle or small pistol magnum. I have used them for years in my Hornet.

I think speers manual is the only one I have ever seen that used small pistol primers. Does it list data with Lil gun?

Usually most load data for hornets does H110/296, Lil gun, 2400, aa1680, etc. Plus other gun writers have used it in their hand loading articles on Hornets in the past as well.

Use Remington 6 1/2 primers instead of 7 1/2 primers for the Hornet & 218 Bee.

I once did a test with a K Hornet with four different primers small rifle and small pistol at 200 yards with the chronograph set up, very little difference in velocity or group size between all four of them in my test. John Roberts

the rumor was that you could get better accuracy with pistol primers ( I actually have a Hornet revolver ) so I started using CCI pistol primers a while back... CCI's typically have a harder cup, than some of the other brands... I've not had any negative effects using them...
