I'm going to install a different barrel on a .45 Colt O.M. frame. I need to remove .004 from the rear to create a B/C of .002-.003. Do you think I need to invest in the Tooling to redo the Forcing cone? It is a factory Ruger barrel. This is for my own use and not like I'm smithing this for anyone.

Seeing as how you should use a lathe to face off the end of the barrel, it would be natural to also cut whatever forcing cone you want at that time.
How were you planning on to remove the .004"?

Brownells sells a forcing cone reamer set that includes a barrel facing cutter. I believe you can buy the cutters separately. It can also be hand filed if you trust your skill level.

Conjecture over the building blocks of revolver accuracy can get you into trouble. Many silhouette championships have been won with stock Ruger single actions shooting stock factory forcing cones. About the only reason to remove metal from a forcing cone is to make a crooked cone concentric to the bore. Or, to clean up heavy tool marks. Almost never is a factory cone too shallow. To proceed from here we need photos of the forcing cone taken from 9 and 3 o'clock. The barrel should hand tighten to 10 or 12 degrees Before Top Dead Center. If it snugs to frame with the sight at 20-30 degrees BTDC, you are nearly certain to create a crush ring where the barrel shoulder meets the frame. David Bradshaw

I'd have to agree with David. It is not a must to cut a new forcing cone. I shoot many "old" Rugers that have the quick forcing cone. They are just as accurate as those with the longer cone. The key is concentricity and proper alignment.
