According to Dougans book on the Second Decade, you gun at least falls within the serial number range of the 1430 brass framed 44s.

Per the book, prior to 1972 there were 120(no serial #s given) and from Sept. to November 1972 they shipped 1430 brass GF's serial#s 80-49370 to 57300, so yes you have an original factory brass GF SBH...Nice!!
PS-I was looking at these books yesterday bc some complete A**hole on GB was selling a 1967 41mag BH w/factory original brass GF opening bid $2499.00 stating rare only 60 made.......................BIG Problem is they shipped 210 but not until 1972-1973 serial #s beginning and ending with 40-xxxxxx. What a scamming pos. They shipped 160 in 1972 and 50 in 1973. 5 years after his STANDARD 41 mag OM was made. He just picked up an original brass GF on ebay or somewhere and slapped it on, based on the 65-70% condition, what he has is a mixed match $500 gun at best(most of which is the brass gf). To bad you can't report seller's like that but no contact or phone's for GB anywhere.

I understand that there is a later Dougan book from 91 or 94 that he researched the serial numbers of the guns that were shipped with a brass grip frame. It is susposed to list the serial numbers and is susposed to be more accurate than Ruger records. I don't think Ruger cares anymore about giving you accurate information on the old models. Maybe somebody that is a member of Ruger Forum could post the serial number for me. (80-50724)Thanks for any help you can give me. Thanks, Ron

I think he is speaking about Dougans book, "The Vintage Years" that has actual lists in the back with serial numbers of the brassies.

I think "The Vintage Years" is the one. The guy that owned the Old Model Super took it to a gun store in Las Vegas that I used to go in quite often. When he left I went outside and talked to him and he said he had it since it was new and it came with a brass frame. He didn't know that there was anything special about and neither did the guy that owned the store so I went back and bought it at a good price. This was in the late 70'. I bought a Single Six Light Weight from the same store about a year before that and neither one of us new it was something special until after I got it home. That and a Old Model 357 Flat Top that I had since 1959 got me started collecting Old Model Rugers. Thanks, Ron

Ok, I got into my man cave where my books & all are. Dougans book, "Ruger Pistols & Revolvers, The Vintage Years 1949-1973" was printed in 2008. It has lists in the back of the verifiable brass framed guns. It is a wealth of info for collectors. There were mistakes & typos,, LIKE ALL BOOKS, so there was a revision list of corrections.
Now, according to this book, the brassie, 80-50724 you have is a verifiable factory shipped Super. I'd suggest you spend the $10 & get the factory letter,,, as it makes the difference.

Thanks Contender. Most collectors rely more on Dougans serial numbers than the factory.z I talked to Ruger and they wouldn't verify it as factory shipped. Thats why Dougan researched the factory records and most collectors go more about what he has listed than what Ruger says. I will try to find the book. Thanks for your help. I have his books from the 80's
