Have a 30 carbine old model blackhawk (unconverted) very nice revolver in great shape. Now.... Im not real hip on the 30 carbine. Want to change to front sight out all together and have talked with Mr Reeder about doing a 300gnr (a screamer), then have read about fireforming 32-20 brass cutdown for rimmed 30 carbine but it will require some machining to the old model cylinder. Or just having the cylinder reamed for 32-20 (actually 30-20)....... I was just curious if it was you what would you do

None of the above. I'd get Gary to build me extra cylinders in both cartridges and preserve the gun as is.
Would make a great switch cylinder gun.

Considering that I already have a pile of 30 carbine ammo as well as a bunch of brass and bullets, I would be inclined to use it as a 30 carbine. I had one a long time ago and it was a great shooter. I have never come across another one for sale. Someday I might have to pick up another one just to shoot up all this ammo!

That 30 Carbine Blackhawk makes a mighty impressive fireball I'd agree with 2dogs and shoot it!

I own about 1/2 dozen OM Ruger's in 30 Carbine. In fact,,, I just picked up one about a week ago. It was NIB,,, with all the paperwork except the shipper. If you want a different caliber,,, I'd opt for the extra cylinder options listed above. Leave it as shipped for the rest of it.

I've owned quite a number of OM 30 Carbine's & every single one has been a really accurate gun. Since yours is unconverted I wouldn't change it, I'd just get a 32/20 cylinder made as mentioned, buy some 32/20 dies, mine are Redding along with a Redding profile crimp die & you're ready to go with a rimmed case.

No difference in loading any other cartridge. All the throats and bores I've measured on the Ruger 30 Carbines have been .309".
So I size Hornady 100 grn 32s down to .309" courtesy of a Lee sizer.
Always provides great accuracy and performance.

The rimmed 30 via the 32-20 sounds interesting... I had an 80's vintage 30 carbine Blackhawk, that was my least favorite revolver... I knew a lot less of revolvers back then, but seemed every time I'd take that thing out, I'd end up burning my wrist, even if my off hand was a foot from the barrel / cylinder gap, it was drawing blood... turned out the timing ( actually the chamber spacing ) was off quite a ways, resulting in crazy amounts of spitting out the sides... I fould this out when I converted the revolver to 45 Autorim / 45 Colt... mine always had a no drill scope mount, & a handgun scope, & best I could ever get out of it, was 4" groups at 50 yards... less than I had hoped for, with the scope on it... I'd originally bought it as a companion gun, to my 30 carbine rifle, but later the Automag 3 took over that position, so the Blackhawk languished on the shelf for many years... honestly, when 30 carbine ammo was cheap as dirt, the gun IMO, had a purpose in that caliber, now that it's just as expensive as anything else out there, it seems kinda an unneeded / unloved caliber... I have my 25's, 32's & 38's, & there just aren't a lot of good bullets out there for the 30 carbine revolver ( I used to use the 100 grain short jacket plinker bullets, but haven't seen those in quite a while

I've had my NM BH in 30 Carbine since 87 I believe, one thing that I lernt straight off was to load it as a pistol, not a rifle. There is no need to have all that blast and fire and noise for it to be accurate.
