Just voted for .45 calibre as I have extra .45 ACP cylinders for the SAA revolvers I have and therefore utilize both cartridges ...........

The .44, of course. On the low end, I can't imagine life without cartridges like the .44Russian, .44Spl, .44Colt and .44-40. On the upper end, the .44Mag will do everything the .45Colt will do and do so without a custom cylinder.

Plenty of reasons for other calibers but for "only" ...got to be .45.

I voted for the 44 magnum. Not that I don't have a lot of respect and adoration for the 45 Colt, I have just found that the 44 is far less picky from sixgun to sixgun than the 45s. Or said a different way, it has been far easier to get a 44 to shoot the way I want than the 45s. Your own experience may be vastly different. Still, a properly set up 45 is a dream sixgun. And I sure do love my small bore sixguns.....

I'm down to three, .22, .357 & .44. Taking it down to one I have to go with the .44Mag for the simple reason that it'll do everything the other two can do but the other two can't do what the .44 can do.

.41 for me...have had just about everything else from .22 Jet to .500 S&W and for general shooting, hunting, plinking and self-defense the .41 has worked nicely...

44 and never look back. Ok 38/.357 has an appeal in the guns available and long term it is less lead and powder. And the whole 45/45acp/.454 thing is also appealing but in the lower 48 I really do not need the 454. I did drop all my 38 357 but I am occaisionally tempted. As for 45 I am 45 acp only. The 44 serves me well. Versitile available and capable.

I wanted so much to vote for the 45 . After all, it's a little bigger than the .44 so it should therefore work a little better. Problem is, the 45 Colt for me has been hard to get good groups with. Yeah, I shot a buck and a javelina with one last year, but the .44 Special, or at least the ones I shoot regularly, have been infinitely easier to find accurate loads. A couple of months ago I lobbed a 255 gr. RN into a nice, plump blue quail and hardly ruffled a feather. (It was delicious grilled over mesquite!) Then about a week and a half ago I drilled a 200 lb. sow with a 260 gr. Keith SWC and sent her to that happy mudhole in the sky. Not to mention the deer I've taken with revolvers so chambered. That friends, is true versatility without all the boom and fuss.

Well, 44-40 isn't one of the options, so I guess I'd have to go with the 45.

The 44-40 is included in the 44 caliber, just as 38/357. Ronnie
