Sorry if this has been covered before but I'm not clear on this.
When you powder coat bullets do you add gas checks before or after PC? If after, any problem with them fitting on the base?
Do you size the bullets before or after PC? If after any problems with the coating coming off? Also if after do the bullets have to be sized down anther .001 or so to fit in tight cylinder end guns like the Freedom Arms? When you size do you use your lub sizer without the lube?
Thank you for the help.

Size after PC. No lube needed, the pc is the lube. Not sure on gc's, I've never used them... If pc is done correctly, it won't come off, even if hammered flat it won't come off.

Gas check them when you size them, AFTER you've powder coated them.

Gas check them when you size them, AFTER you've powder coated them. This
Also, I use PC 280gr(LBT LFN style) in my Freedom M83 .44 mag, and 400 gr WFN style in my M83 .500 Wyoming. They fit just fine in the tight cylinder throats after proper sizing. I use a Star lubrisizer with the lube pressure backed off.

If you bake after crimping, you'll anneal the GC, which isn't bad, but will loosen your tight GC crimp, making it necessary to crimp them on again. Ask me how I know . Way better to do after the PC bake so you save yourself a step.

Thank you for the help. Hoover and Sixshot can fix you up on details, and correct me as necessary. "I apply the gas check after powder coating," says Jeff "Tank" Hoover. As for ACCURACY from a cast bullet when diameter exceeds the chamber exit (throat) by .001"----the answer is YES. (Providing the bullet is accurate in the first place.) Chamber exits on the Ruger 03 mike .4515", and accuracy from cast bullets measuring .001" over is good enough for groups of 4-to-6 inches @ 100 yards, including human factor. A conventionally lubed cast bullet is apt to lead the bore when fired through an undersize throat. A powder coat bullet fired through the same throat does not, in my experience, lead the bore. Chamber exits of .449" to .450" should be honed, or reamed. With utmost care. David Bradshaw

As mentioned you always want to powder coat & bake, then seat the GC & size your slugs. The powder coating is very tough, once its on there, its staying on, much like a plated bullet (Berry)etc. Many times, depending on cylinder throats you can shoot them unsized for best accuracy. My old blued model 25 S&W had oversize throats & would never shoot a .452" under 4" at 25 yds. but when powder coated & shot unsized was very accurate. I think Tank solved the same problem with a couple of his Marlins. Even though I always try to get by without gas checks many times its the only way to really make a gun shoot its best. I've seen them go from singing like Callshot with a plain base to singing like Sinatra with a GC, HUGE DIFFERENCE!

Thought I'd bookmarked everything Hoover and Sixshot have posted on this topic but I guess not.
Can all Harbor Freight colors be used to powder coat. Any color or mix of colors that works best.
I think Sixshot mentioned another supplier of a better quality powder coat product.
Thanks,
Paul

I have only used Harbor Freight red. I have heard good things about Powder Buy the Pound. Same here. The HF Red powder was the only one said to work good from HF on other forums I visited so that is what I bought and use. I don't really like the coverage I get with it though...?
Powder By The Pound is said to be a better powder coat and I will get me some to try...

Does the powder coat cause issues with seating the checks? It seems like it might be thick enough that it would.
