Here, that type of snake gets a free pass. Have 2 black snakes, a few times a year see a milk snake. But the type, corn snake, rat snake and such, I don't mind. Good mousers. Am not fond of water snakes, too often grumpy or want in my boat. The little pygmy rattlers here are a rare find and I'll allow. The timber rattlers up in the Penn hills at camp..sometimes, depending on where found sometimes cannot get by without a BANG ! Pay attention, stay safe folks

Saw this guy the other day at the end of the hard road. Biggest pygmy I've ever seen. He'd be about fourteen inches stretched out, big around as a nickel. Had five rattles I believe. He was wanting no part of my examination. He was half a mile way from my yard so he lives.

Bad lighting and poor reference with my son but here is "Ruger", my friends home security and has a twin "Colt". Ruger weighs 207, Colt about 150.

Always had blacksnakes around the farm,in the corn crib and barns. Mom wouldn't tolerate them around the house though. Wife is the same way. I take them out of the yard a let them go.

squawberryman: Would like to watch your friend practice concealed carry with Ruger and Colt. Could be quite entertaining...

I am far from an expert on snakes, but I was told by a guy I understood was a biologist for the wild life department that pygmy rattlers we have in Texas have some of the most toxic vinum of any rattler. He was showing all the snakes that live on Padre Island. Including coral snakes. Those pygmy rattlers were suppose to live in the salt grass behind the sand dunes. He claimed the reason more people are not bit is because when people venture back there they usually get swarmed by mosquitos and driven back to the beach.

Here, the little rattlers, are called Massasaugas. They are considered docile and the venom weak. Labeled endangered. Not sure I believe or want to test the weak venom part. The one I caught/handled was docile but it was a bit cool for reptiles that day. I had found it in my flower bed here in NE Ohio, on the Grand River. My neihbor had too many cats so I released it in her flower bed..
