I've got a special stack, one of many, that I call the Hall of Fame Stack. That issue is in there just for that article! Great read!

Bingo! I still think about this article and believe the man comes to the conclusions he does with some thought involved. Appreciate you looking it up.

I remember it well. I also remember reading another a magazine article about Mr. Hanson as well. In that one he said he wished for a gun with the simplicity of the Colt fixed sights but the strength and ruggedness of the Ruger. When the Vaquero became I available I figured Gary Hanson may have been first in line to own one.

I always enjoyed Rick's articles when he was writing. He did one about blue printing bolt actions and the article displayed the process on a model 700. Rick's nephew did the work and I found he was about two hours south of me so I contacted him and had him do a 700 7mm-08 I had converted to single shot. Gun is most accurate one in the small herd and decided to start playing with it to figure out its favorite long range load.

Wish I could track Rick down, been trying for a while. He wrote a lot about the Max. Would love to talk to him, Jack

Nice article. I always liked his writing, but the crap he pulled with the WSM patent B.S. put a bad taste in a lot of folks mouth, including mine. I don't hate the guy, but I wish all that had not gone down.

How about that? Heavy bullet at moderate velocity is just the ticket.

Jack, last I heard Rick lived in the Springfield OR area. I used to have his address but it isn't in the normal spot it should be in the desk.

Ricks articles were among the best things I used to enjoy about ST. I seem to recall that issue as well. I ran into Rick at the SHOT Show a few times,, and was able to enjoy a pleasant visit. I figured I didn't have enough details about his issues with ST & the lawsuit etc to make any kind of judgement. It never came up.
Jack,,, I have his card in my stuff. I'll see if I can find it.
