I have cleaned my 83 a few times now and was wondering if you can take the base pin out without removing the ejector rod housing? I've cleaned mine in place thus far as it doesn't appear to come out, just a hair too long. Also, when I removed the ERH screw the housing itself still doesn't want to budge. Do they loctite them in place? I didn't want to damage the gun so I left it alone and put the screw back in. It was rock solid even without the screw. This is my first Freedom Arms so I'm not sure if I missed something, I did read the entire manual just to make sure.

Call Freedom Arms with your question. The Casull ejector housing has a RECOIL lug countering, with the lug attached to the barrel. Ejector housing fits over lug with no slop at all. David Bradshaw

Thank you David, I thought that might be the case since it was FIRMLY planted without the screw in place.

It does have a boss type ledge. Tap it while pulling and it should come off. Just don't hammer it!

Will do, so I assume it's normal to remove the ERH to pull the base pin?

I don't usually have to but the barrels are longer. There are mods that can be done to the housing that allows the rod to be turned out if the way and move a little more and remove the cylinder. I have rarely removed it from any of my 6", 7.5" or 10" guns. On the 10" guns for any reason. To be honest, until last week, I've never felt obligated to even take the grips off any of my guns over the last 15 years or so. I tore one completely down a week or so ago and it was cool to see how they are different internally from a normal colt lockwork/springs etc. neat guns.

I haven't needed to pull the pin for any reason, just curious for the most part. I can clean the pin/hole just fine as is. The only guns I take completely apart are ones I'm working on or if they get rained on.

After you take the ejector rod housing screw out..take a nylon/phenolic tipped hammer and tap the end out and down ..it will release it from the barrel.

Thanks faca454, I'll give that a try next time it gets cleaned.
