Groo here For you learned people. I am looking at a project. I would like to take an xdm45 barrel and bore/reline/and chamber to 10mm [as no one seems to make a conversion] The mag on mine looks like it would feed them, the extractor and ejector looks like it will work springs and buffers[sprinco] can be had and the gun should be good as 45super and 460 roland are used in them.

I wish I had an answer for you,,, but one thing to look at is the magazines. I have a 1911 in 40 S&W & the mags for it are different than for my 45's. The top portion of the mag that retains the ammo has a different dimension. Another thought is the bolt face. Getting the ammo aligned to where it's centered so the firing pin will work is another thought. My 1911 conversion required a different ejector & extractor. Just saying,,,,,,,,,,,,,!

Doesn't Springfield sell that gun in .40 S$W? Would it be possible to simply deepen the chamber to 10mm? I don't own an XD, so I'm not familiar with them at all.

Groo here The barrel indexs the case not the breach face. As long a the barrel is fit to the slide the alignment is assured. If the extractor will grab the rim and the ejector hits the rim those should be ok too. The mag is double stack and holds 10mm brass ok. I ask our good smiths for their thoughts

Back when the 40 was introduced people wanted 1911s in that caliber. The problem was 10mm breech faces were pretty rare. What some ended up doing, including one major manufacturer, was use a 45 slide and 38 super extractor. It worked for a while till the extractor tension gave out and what was done with the ejector. The barrel does locat the case until the ejecion cycle is about half way done. Once the case clears the barrel it is pushed against the side of the breech face by the extractor. That's where the trouble begins, a 45 breech face is about .050" wider than a 10mm. Which means the extractor much push the case .025" further than it was designed to in order for it to make firm contact with the ejector. This is just my experience with these calibers in 1911s 25 years ago. Your milage may vary. Good luck.

I'd change the recoil spring and instal extra power magazine springs and go 45 Super. The Super is superior to the 10mm in my experience. They both penetrated about the same with the Super leaving larger wound channels.

I don't think you will be able to find a reliner specialist to take on the job. Most relines are for old black powder cartridges in the 20-25k psi range and the 10 is running upwards of 37.5k. I'm not to familiar with the xdms in 9, 40 and 45. As previously mentioned my idea would be to go with a 40 or, a rebored 9mm barrel in your 45 frame but the frames and slides are probably simular to glocks 40 and 45 frames.
