I believe this is the reason my 454 is binding. In the upper corner, at the top of the pawl slot, they didn't fully machine out the recess for the ratchet. The outside edge of the ratchet is binding against the ridge of metal they missed. What is the best way to remove it? Safe file? Sorry for the poor picture quality.

In the NRA Summer gunsmithing course taught by Hamilton Bowen, we cleaned up areas such as that with a file or with india stones, whatever you could fit in the tight areas you were working in. Is the problem area at the top on the side closest to the gun's centerline? Tim

It was just past centerline, from there to the pawl slot

Fixed it with a diamond coated safe file. Ended up smoother than the machining where the ratchet contacts.

Axman, that's funny there! Let the same ones that put it out the door like this fix it? No thanks. No telling what would be broken when it came back.

Coat it with your handy sharpie and put the cylinder back in. It will be shiney where it rubs.
