Locked away... with one or two stashed about the house. I handle them regularly and use Johnson paste wax, buffed with a soft cloth... I almost forgot. Whenever a crated item arrives at work, I retrieve the large, baggy-sized desiccant bags (before they get thrown out) to store with my guns and knives. -Bill Bluing on my SRM Blackhawk

I admit I'm pretty bad about worrying about such things. I have several guns around the house and even more in my safe. Most are just in the safe however they will fit, some in boxes, some on the shelf and some in holsters. I clean them occasionally and on the ones that get little use, they get a light coat of oil that is then wiped off, leaving barely a film. I guess I am lucky as I have never had rust on any gun I own. It probably has a lot to do with living in a very dry climate, even in winter it is dry here. I'm assuming a lot of you guys, if not most, live in a much more humid environment. If I lived somewhere like that I would have to really think long and hard about changing my storing procedures.

Are there cheap universal pistol pockets that I can self arrange on a safe door to properly space out my door-mounted pistols? self arrange with or without additional hardware

Alaskan .454:
I lightly coat my handguns with a combination of Eezox and Weapon Shield, wrap them in a heavy plastic freezer bag, zip them up in a pistol rug and store them in a gun safe with a desiccant can.
I used RIG for years but have found that the mixture of Eezox and Weapon Shield gun oil is easier to remove and does not get stiff like the RIG did over time.
I have been using this technique for about the past ten years with perfect results on parkerized, high polish blue, color case hardened and high-polished nickel finishes. I should add that I live in the desert where the relative humidity is usually lower than ten percent so rust other than that caused by finger prints from handling is not an issue.

10%?!?!? Man. What a dream environment. Here in SE Texas 60% is considered LOW. Nevada is a fun state and very pro-gun with a super dry climate especially in the southern portion. However, you may have some high humidity but Wow, do you live in a great state with outstanding spirit, absolute total 2nd Ammendment support and a true love for Colt SAA revolvers!! Texas is the very best.....I really enjoy visiting the Lone Star State. J.D. Press

10%?!?!? Man. What a dream environment. Here in SE Texas 60% is considered LOW. Same for the DFW area most of the time. If I'm in 10% humidity I've either climbed into the dryer or my wife has taken control of the thermostat in winter... CO is pretty dry as well. My buddy's wife got transferred to somewhere around Denver for a while and he decided to keep his Corrosion X distribution sideline going while they were there. The gunshows were a lost cause because he kept showing his visual demos and people told him "But we don't have high humidity here!"

Ok, I've looked at this thread title several times & I always wanted to let the smart-alec in me pop off & say; "In a safe!"
But, to be honest & sincere, I think storage requirements are different for different reasons. Humidity in different parts of the country affects how we take care of our guns. Plus, a lot also depends upon how many we have etc. Working guns,,, get daily use & regular cleaning as needed. Casual guns,,, cleaned & stored,,, but not used as much, so not cleaned as much & often the Johnson Paste wax or RIG is used. Collectible guns I don't plan on shooting,,, all get a good cleaning & waxing or oiled. All in a safe where the humidity is monitored.
I used to use gun socks with oil etc impregnated in the socks, but I've switched recently, due to safe changes. No socks used much anymore.

I've had good success wiping everything down with Rem Oil. Handguns are put in flannel bags and rest vertically in small plastic bins ( each holds 3 revolvers) with a divider between each to avoid contact with neighbors. The bins fit nicely on the safe shelves and it lets me store more in limited space.

I'm like Contender - simplistic in thought. Mine are stored "Behind the Maroon Door", in a concrete walled storm shelter, with HVAC, Renaissance wax, Lubriplate grease and gun oil. Most are in a display case, sometimes in guns socks if they are not going to be used for a long while. Tim

Something else nobody has down here. Basements. My Ex's family thought it odd I wanted to see their basements in Mich UP & Indy. I had never been in one and was curious. Ground is too wet here.

Glad to see/hear that others here also use Renaissance wax and/or Johnson's paste wax.
Another good one is Lucas Speed Wax. It's in a spray bottle and works good IMO.

Would love to see inside, but realize that's like asking for risque shots of a fella's Mrs. That frame around the door sure makes your set-up pop!

After I get a chance to straighten up a bit (wrap Christmas gifts) I'll try to snap a couple of shops. Tim
