I've seen a lot of people who coat in oil or rust preventative and stick them in factory boxes, others put them in padded cases, I personally tend to keep them on pistol racks in a moisture controlled safe. I started using the racks after a dreaded spot of rust showed up from storing something in a padded case, I missed a spot with the oiled cloth before I put it away. What are you all doing for storage?

I put them in gun socks then straight onto the shelf or into a padded case (left unzipped). I started using them after finding some rust on a cased gun. No problems since, but it has only been a couple of years.

Wipe mine down, lay flat in an unlined metal blueprint cabinet. Have several that are just stacked still in the original boxes. Controlled safe room. Jack.

I never store them. Just play with them all the time.

The new gun socks are the ticket and if you dont have an air tight gun cabinet with good moisture control try storing them in a gun sock and a tupperware container, filled it with uncooked rice, my 1st gen nickle plated Army has been stored this way for 30 years or so with no problems at all. I do take it out now and again to make sure it still shoots better than i do,clean it with non petroleum products such as GunZilla , put it back in the gun sock and replace the rice.

I just keep'em in the safe however they fit. Some are stashed around the house. I don't oil any of them anymore. I run Renaissance Wax or a couple others if I run out (Lucas Speed Wax, Johnson paste wax) on EVERYTHING that generally got oiled for storage. Of course areas that need lubricant still gets oil or grease depending on location, but no more oil for me to try to keep corrosion at bay! NO Rust, NO Fingerprints, No Nothing... Good Stuff. Yep, Ren Wax is where it's at. BigBore44

I remember my dad talking about this. He said " son if you don't practice safe storage you get rust." Scared the hell out of me.

All are spayed down with G96 silicone spray, put in a case or a gun sock and into a gun safe with a Golden Rod...never a problem.

All of my handguns are working tools and are "stored" within reach. They get cleaned and lubed as necessary.

I want to put my handguns on the safe door. They will all fit TECHNICALLY. the issue is that safe door organizers are not cofigured for revolvers, they assume you have one full size 1911 and the rest of the pockets are for miniature semi auto pistols.
Any suggestion for how I can "customize" my own door organizer for a few pistols to ensure sufficient clearance to put single models in and out without disturbing the rest?
