Base Gun is an early 70s Ruger BH w/ 7.5" barrel in 45 Colt.
Currently, this old girl suffered a broken hammer while dry firing some 20 years ago. It has come up in conversations frequently but I or the owner haven't litterally had an OM Hammer fall outta the sky and hit us so it just been hidden in a sock in the top dresser drawer all this time.
I discovered while surfing that Ron Powers was making an OM Registered BH standard and Bisley Hammer save signing a release waiver. So I call so n so up and tell him the good news. Bring it up for the holidays and we'll get her fixed up. Well now, so and so wants to install a SBH grip frame. I try and talk him into a bisley frame but he wants a SBH cause it is longer for his big hands. So off to the auction sites I go to find an OM SBH grip frame.
I have the following ?s:
1. From reading up on the SBH GF, it has a wider trigger. Will an OM BH trigger work or will I need to also secure a SBH trigger?
2. Besides normal grip frame fitting, can a NM SBH grip frame be used with OM lock work or would major invasive surgery be required/not practical?
Thanks in advance gentleman.

Yes, he thinks it ugly. He shot mine last summer. (Shaking my head in disbelief).

Might try a WTB ad on rugerforum. I've secured plenty of old model parts that way.
The nmsbh grip frame can be added. The big hurdle is the trigger return spring differences from old to new model gf's. Query RF and you'll see plenty of ways to work around it.

The SBH grip frame has a wider trigger slot,,, but the normal BH trigger will work. It's just that most folks like to add the trigger when they add the g/f.
As noted above,,, you can use a NM g/f under an OM. BUT,,,,,,,,, you will need to make a trigger return spring insert piece. THEY ARE NOT HARD TO MAKE. You will remove the NM trigger return spring, use the pin hole to hold the adapter, & easy-pesy. I've used aluminum & brass to make several inserts. The Ruger Forum has a post somewhere in it about these things.

Thanks for the info gents. To clarify, I can use a NM SBH frame with the old lock work but, need to fab up an easy peezy brass do-maflagie with the domaflagie info available on the ruger forum. Off to another rabbit hole I go.

You are correct. The OM trigger return spring needs a hole to rest in,,, and the NM g/f has a slot to allow the NM spring to rest in. You fill the g/f slot with a custom piece,,, drilling the hole for the trigger return & the cross pin to hold it in place. It's actually easy. I made a half a dozen one day in about 1-1/2 hours at a buddys shop. Milled a good piece to fit the slot,,, cut them off, drilled a few holes & milled down the angle needed.

Yep,,, that's one of them links. You can see the shape of the piece you need to make. I've found it easy to do, and make several at once & store them with g/f's I've squirreled away. That OM 44 maggie in the pic I have is a good example of putting a NM Bisley g/f under an OM gun & lockwork.
