I have a stainless Super Blackhawk with up and down movement at the chamber end of the cylinder. The cylinder will almost touch the topstrap. I fired it and didn't notice spitting from the cylinder gap. Any ideas about what might be going on with this revolver?

It does have the factory base pin.

Take the cylinder out, put the base pin thru it and see how much slack it has. It could be the base pin not seating properly in the rear of the frame as well.

I have another revolver with a Belt Mtn basepin in it. I could put that one in this gun and see if it makes a difference.

I would try that. I received a Ruger that had a mid frame pin in it. Wouldn't even push transfer bar back. Make sure you have the correct pin.

I'd hope that isn't the case here. This gun has been customized and it went through a well known shop.

Seen this before. I would make sure to have them take care of it if things aren't right. I won't bash any of them on the forum, but only trust a couple shops out there. And people make honest mistakes too. You will be good. Let us know what the problem was. Interesting.

I went the easier route and robbed a blue Belt Mtn basepin from another of my Rugers. It's a much tighter fit than the original stainless pin. The lateral play in the cylinder is mostly gone but the cylinder still looks closer to the top of the cylinder window at the chamber end. Even so, I think it's ready to go now.
