Can a aluminum grip frame from a large framed Blackhawk be mated to a mid framed Flat Top Blackhawk without a lot of fitting? The mid frames have those damned locks in the frame and the mid framed sized guns don't have those alignment slots under the upper screws in the frame.
Seems you could lighted a mid framed gun up a fair bit pretty easily if it would work right.

I do believe the hole pattern is the same. I haven't gotten any of the newer guns w/o the "ears" (alignment pins,) where I tried any swapping. But you should be able to swap them around.

you should be able to do it without much trouble. I know forum member Mackysagebrush put a aluminum XRN3-RED grip frame on his stainless flattop.
also if the lock is your main issue with the New XR3 grip frame, Ruger forum member Hondo44 figured out you can use a Bearcat spring seat in place of the lock.
