A buddy offered me this Colt SAA made in 1883 today. I am thinking about getting it. It still functions, but it went through a house fire. These guns were blackpowder only in this era i believe. Could this be anything more than a wallhanger?

I'd ask Alan Harton what he thought. Just my 2 cents. Ronnie

With some re tempering it might well be saved.Hammer spring looks to still be alive.

You may also want to consider a Colt letter on the gun. I know they are not cheap, last I heard. You may have one heck of a piece of history there, never know. I've seen many "fire" guns in my time. a lot of variables there, some restorable some not. Have it check out by someone competent. May be worth the restoration.

If you decide to part it out, I sure would like some of those parts :-)

I hold for my step son his inherted SAA of 1883 in .32-20 in my safe. It is well used. I have no doubt that Alan will shoot straight about any possibility of refurbishing yours. But from someone who has been through this with a first gen....get that Colt letter before you do anything. It is money well spent as a keepsake, let alone the possibility of providing provenance on a possible historical piece. My steps son's gun went from a $3K blackpowder shooter to a $10K museum piece with that letter.
