That is a beautiful piece of wood! It is a shame that, after all that work, it didn’t work out for the #1. All is well, that ends well, and you have enough wood to do alot of revolvers.

As it turned out, since that #1 buttstock had already been rough shaped, it was pretty dicey work to get the pair you see from it...no leftovers. The #1 did get finished in a fine piece of walnut though:

Stockbroker = that is an extraordinary stock on your Ruger No. 1. I remember drooling at pictures of custom stocks like that from Gun Digests back in the Sixties. Beautiful and thanks for sharing.
God bless,
Hugh

Have been playing with these in FA 97 recently. Building a load for western cougar trip. Anyone else shooting CEB's? Shot these bullets today over Chronograph. 18.5” Henry, and 7.5” Redhawk Average 2050 and 1825 FPS with Power Pistol

Also picked up some of these gas checked hard cast to try; made by Oregon Trails, and I’ve shot scads of their SWC’s-wanted to see what could be done. Seated to the crimp groove, they’re too long for FA 97’s, but fill up the blackhawk nicely. Over Chronograph, loads worked up to 1750 FPS in 18.5” Henry, just shy of 1400 in 7.5” Redhawk. Looks like death on hogs.

I use that same 265 Oregon Trail bullet in my 414 SM. It's a rebored factory cylinder so I have to deep seat and crimp on the ogive, but it shoots great. A full window cylinder would accommodate it crimping on the groove.

I used that bullet on my antelope 4 years ago. Did I need that bullet for such a thin skinned goat, heck no but it shoots so well in my 414.
