I have the mp 477640 385 gr HP mold that sixshot and others have been using in the 475L and 480s. I have only used it in my bfr with 475L brass and would like to use it in the new bisley 480 when I get one. What load of HS-6 powder do you recommend to achieve 1000-1100 fps using 480 brass ? Thanks.

I'm sure Zeus will chime in here, he's using HS6 as are some of the others in their 480's & 475,s. Glenn is shooting a 475 with this bullet but I don't know which crimp groove he is using & thats a game changer & it will also be a game changer in the 480. If you use the lower crimp groove as I do & use 21 grs. of 4227 then you are looking at some where around 1050-1100 fps. If you stay with the same powder charge & crimp in the top crimp groove you will boost pressure but still be on safe ground. Same rule with HS6, so lets have some of the others jump in. I've also used H110, magnum primer & bottom crimp groove in my Harton 5 shot gun. Oh, you are going to love that bullet!

In the soft alloy, Id probably crimp in upper groove and use 13-13.5 with a WLP and see where it lands velocity wise. Adjust powder charge to get the 1100-1140 fps and roll on. It's magic in that area, trust me. It's everything I ever wanted out of that bullet. You'll have to ask Dick on alloy mix that we shoot as he casts the ones I've used. I've used them on pigs and Bison and have been very impressed. Buddies have used them on pigs and deer and have had consistent results. Deer HATE them

13.5gr of HS-6 goes exactly 1050fps in my 4 3/4" FA 83, shoots better than I can hold.

Thanks for the info, I had cast straight ww but was shooting around 1300 fps in the 475 using h110, overkill for these pa whitetails plus unneeded recoil, will cast some 70/30 ww-pb as had read from your prior postings and get the speed down.

My bullet is weighing 394 gr lubed with gc, straight ww, figure changing to 30% lead will up that weight, my mold must be a little different than yours.

It always pays to weigh your bullets after each batch, I'm getting quite a few lots that weigh about 395grs. also. Weigh each lot every time you cast & you'll be fine, or weigh when you first start casting & adjust your alloy for weight. I try to stay with the 70/30 alloy most of the time. Works great up to 1100 fps or so.

We use the big HP pins on our bullets. I think they end up about 388 typically lubed and ready to shoot. 395 wouldn't matter or require charge adjustment on the HS6 load. I've used the same load of HS6 from 370-425s in the past. No problems but I don't go on the top end of the spectrum with HS6 either. If I want serious horsepower, I move to 296/110. 95% of my shooting consists of HS6 loads. No need for anything else in my opinion for the critters I shoot.

Ok thanks, will try some loads with hs6 using 480 brass in the bfr now and be ready when the new sbh 480 arrives.

Don't rule out Longshot, I've tried some a while back (10 grs.) & it shows real promise. Its turning into one of my favorite powders for several guns.

I've burned a bit over 8 lbs of Longshot in 44/45 guns with good results. Looking forward to trying in .480 soon.

Tag. Thanks for the info, gents! I am going to be working up some loads for my .480 SRH while (patiently... yeah right, who am I kidding)waiting for the Bisley to arrive at my LGS. I've got a bunch of the 385 grainers I bought off a member over on the Ruger Forum and I can't wait to load these up with some HS-6 to the velocity indicated above.
