So I've got a 4 5/8" Ruger 45 Flattop, stainless, that I bought for use a packin' pistol; I've since decided on an FA 97 in 45 Colt to fill that niche. That leaves me with this stubby-barreled 45 Flattop. Here's my thinking: Bowen will get the nod for the project, as I've used him before and I'm in no hurry. Here's my tentative plan: Receiver work: Standard action job with "deluxe" upgrade Install Bisley hammer Install nitre blued pins Lightweight scallops Bowen Target rear sight Cylinder work: Retain factory 6-shot cylinder, alter cylinder throats if needed Black powder chamfer Barrel work: Install quick-taper round barrel, finish at 10" (I may be talked down to 7.5" in the end, but for now I'm thinking "go long or go home!" ) Install target-length ejector rod and housing Install Patridge blade front sight, black serrated face Grips are already taken care of: synthetic ivory by Bob Leskovec: Thoughts? Suggestions? Anything I'm missing? The intended use of this gun is fun. Practicality plays no part in it, nor does considerations of economy, efficiency or expediency

6-shot, factory cylinder, cylinder throats modified as needed. I'll edit the original post to reflect that. No need for 5-shot power with this one, and I would definitely be adding a Bisley grip to any 5-shot conversion!

- basepin - CCH hammer/trigger - barrel crown (recessed, 11*, 33*, etc)

Base-pin will be Bowen's standard over-sized locking pin.
Going to go with a stainless hammer and trigger, the nitre blued pins should give a little color to the gun without being too ostentatious.
Likely go with a factory Ruger style crown. With the quick tapered barrel I don't think a recessed crown would be visually appealing, but I'll have to give that further thought.

Five shot would give you "Ruger Only" pressure rating on the mid-frame gun. Handy if you have multiple full sized Rugers in 45 Colt. Otherwise sounds really nice! Tim

10" recommended, as 7.5" is a standard barrel offering (well, not in a flattop).

I'd send it to Jack and let him extend the grip frame to more closely mimic the 1860 Army profile. Like Steve's .44Spl linked to below. You'll also save some money, get it back in six months and be just as well-done as any Bowen job. www.rugerforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=225352Why are folks replacing the all steel Micro rear sight with a Bowen?

Grip frame stays the same as I already have grips for it. I prefer the Bowen target sight to any Ruger sight regardless of construction because of the improved sight picture and durability.
As for Huntington, I'm planning on sending him my blued 45 Flattop for his grip extension and other work sometime next year.

I see you have my initials on the grips. Am I going to get a surprise about Christmas time? Bob Wright
