As you recall, last year Doc and I ventured South to visit with Bart, JoAnna, and their fierce, faithful English Fox terrier, or terror, Pippen. It was a first time meet and greet, and we were a little nervous. This second visit managed to top the first, and we had a great time. Here is last years visit. singleactions.proboards.com/thread/13051/visit-bart
After a family reunion of sorts in the northern part of NM, Doc, a hitchhiker by the name of Curt, and myself headed south for another reunion of sorts, a visit with Bart, JoAnna, and a dog name Pip. Roughly 460 miles, we headed south with much anticipation. Conversation and anticipation flowed freely on the downward ride. Beautiful landscapes were taken in and before you knew it, we were pulling off the hardtop highway onto the dry, dusty road that led to the Skelton hacienda hidden somewhere in the SW desert of NM.
After some time of driving in the desert, we came to a gate. Doc hopped out and opened it for the final jaunt of the trip.
A little while later, we were within sight of our destination.
We were all greeted by Bart with a strong handshake and hug, along with a hug from JoAnna, and a bark from Pip. We unloaded our gear in our assigned rooms, and met in the great room for a cold drink and pleasantries. It didn’t take long for the stories to start, and gun show and tell to begin.
The three sisters on the south side of Bart’s home. The backside is Mexico.
First nights dinner of tacquitos, chile relleno , and homemade salsa.
Part of the great room.
Pipster keeping an eye on my huevos rancheros Saturday morning.
The cigar box gun that went to Bob James in pieces and came out very slick!
Bart’s boomerang guns. Dick Martel built the gun for Skeeter, reshaping the dragoon triggerguard and grip to that of a colt. Skeeter sold it to Hank Williams Jr., who later contacted Bart and returned the gun home, free of charge. Skeeter had the Colt Bisley built for a friend. The friend got sick and died before Skeeter did. Years later, the widow returns the gun to Bart.
the ‘dummy’ gun for the ultimate colt, Skeeters engraved, gold inlaid colt.
Picture of Evan Quiros, overlooking the safe in the gunroom.
Pipster sleeping on the bearskin rug his master took listening to gun stories.
Some SW lawmen and myself looked over the gunroom
Pretty self-explanatory.
Skeeter’s Remington model 12 .22 pump. Used for garden varmint patrol. Doc helped and took 2 of the garden raiders. Skeeter didn’t like it because it didn’t have an exposed hammer.
The saddle on the left was made by Garrett Allen. That plastic jar has some Cuban cigars from John Mileous in it.
Pancho “Tank” Villa, Doc “The Dago Kidd”, and Ned “Red” Pepper Raybuck, the hitchhiker. Some mean hombres not to be reckoned with after a day of shooting.
Saturday night’s dinner. Pork tacos, beans, and all the fixin’s. Awesome meal!
Heading home!
So long NM!
Between last years visit and this year’s visit, there wasn’t really much more to tell without sounding redundant. All I can say is that we all had a great time with a lot of laughs, great food and drinks, lots of gun stories and show and tell. It was a great time and one to go down in the journals as just some sixgunner’s having a great visit with the host being very generous and accommodating.
