local retired builder buddy of mine is wanting to put together a single action 41 special... so I'm looking for a decent price on a chunk of 41 caliber barrel blank, or a take off barrel ( preferably not a Ruger barrel ) anyone have anything, or have a good suggestion on whom to talk to??? Buddy is getting up there in age, & his wife might look at me as an enabler... but if I can find things for him to keep busy, I think he'll both live longer, & have a better quality of life... BTW... this is a project for himself, just something to keep him busy between other projects... he's finally decided to go with the 41 caliber... I don't mind buying a donating & few parts here & there to keep him busy & happy

I've occasionally seen barrels on ebay and GunBroker but not sure if they would suit your needs. If it were me I would get hold of Gary Reeder or David Clements as the both do .41s on a regular basis and may have something they would sell you...
Reeder did a .41 Magnum on a Super Blackhawk for me and Clements did a .41 Special on a USFA....both used their own barrel stock.

I have a rifle length octagon 41 barrel and a Clymer 41 Mag reamer that I would part with real reasonable. I'm not sure it's anything you'd be interested in. You can e mail me at sre3921 at yahoo dot com The barrel was threaded for an 1894 Marlin but the project was never finished.

No problem. I didn't figure it fit your bill but thought I'd throw it out there. Glad you found something that will fit your needs.

I ended up picking up 2 of the barrels from Green Mountain for him... they were both stainless, which he would have rather had carbon steel, but at that price he couldn't argue... he was over yesterday with 2 new 41 caliber single action revolvers 1st was a custom, he built on an old black powder kit gun... that he converted to a cartridge gun in "41 short" which he wanted to try out a bullet mold he made & the gun combination... a round nose, that seemed to shoot pretty goods in front of 4 grains of Unique... sooted cases, but over all he was happy with that one... the other, was a custom single action that he built the frame for, to fit a Colt grip frame & used a Ruger loading gate & ejector housing... that one was built in 41 Special, & was shooting a flat nose bullet on top of 8 grains of Unique... I shot that one but thought it could use a little work on smoothing the trigger yet, but function & accuracy was spot on ( I have a huge blister on my shooting paw from post hole digging, & the plow handle grip put pressure on just the wrong spot )... so one cyl;inder full was enough for me... only thing besides smoothing the 41 Special's trigger that needed work, was the 41 short gun still had the original black powder front pin sight, & it was shooting high, so he will likely put a taller Remington sight on that gun... wish I was retired so I had that kind of time... took him just over 2 weeks to get both guns done, from start, to shooting them yesterday... I can barely keep the lawn mowed around work, & the rain we've been getting lately

Sounds like everything turned out good.
Do you have any photos?

sorry... no pics... they aren't my guns... the 41 short was either a 51 Navy or 60 Army kit gun from the 60's that no one put together all those years, with some parts missing... it has a 7 or 7.5" barrel... I'm not sure of the brand...
the home built frame gun looks like a stockier Colt... not quite as blocky as a blackhawk, it wears a 5.5" barrel... both guns are a combination of cold blued & fire blued right now, with stainless barrels... he's wait on some new blueing that is supposed to blacken stainless to try on the barrels

how did the bores look on those .41 barrel blanks? I have heard the gm barrel blanks can be rough. unlapped maybe?
