I have a set of ivory grips that came on a old model single six and the right panel has a chunk broke off at the grip locator pin. I don't have the piece that broke off. They are well aged and yellowed. Is there any way to repair it or are they worth anything the way they are. Maybe someone looking for a left grip panel. Thanks, Ron

You might try calling a ivory expert like Paul Persinger 915-821-7541 and get his advice on how to deal with the situation

well it's really hard to say without seeing pictures of the grips but I imagine they're fixable. it should be possible to sand the break area flat and epoxy a chunk of ivory onto it, once it's dry the added chunk can be sanded down and fit to the grip frame.
I've done this before with both wood and ivory and it worked great. the only downside I see is when you sand aged ivory it turns from yellow back to white so there would be some color difference, of course time and the oils in your hands would take care of that.
if they are from an unknown Maker they're still ivory so they are worth something. a set of factory Ruger ivory's recently sold on the Ruger forum for $2500 so if they are factory Ruger Ivory's then they are definitely worth something but repairing them may devalue them more than if you left them as is.
