I keep an eye on the Ruger Forum, the links thread here, and GunBroker but is there another place these great guns show up? I have a couple of guns at Alan Harton's being worked on now but sometimes I like to buy something and use it right now. I have been a member here and reading for a long time but not a poster. I have always preferred single actions since the the first SBH I bought in 1980 for $165.

It would help if you told us what you might be looking for? There are quite a few guys on here who might have a line on what you are looking for. And we are quite the enablers.....

I have a centerfire Vaquero single six being made into a 9mm at Alan's and a large frame Bisley Vaquero being converted to a five shot 480 Vaquero. I'm looking for something in the middle, like a 357, 44 special, etc...

I have always wanted to do a Single Six in Super 38 so we have something in common there.
Im sure we can find you something in the middle.
Watch your PMs.

Are you stuck on a single action or would a custom conversion by one of the top gunsmiths in 44 Special work for you?

Where? Based on a small, non-scientific survey of a small sample set (my gun room) the vast majority of the 2nd hand ones I've gotten have come from PM's here and on the Ruger Forum. Somebody mentions they have something, I express admiration and then PM's are exchanged and poof! in a couple of weeks money orders and guns change hands. I've bought some, well one anyway, from a gun store through persistence (online, they kept saying it was sold although still listed on the web, but after a month of trying, somebody finally went and found it in the back - Harton five shot large frame 45) but most from the guys on here. Sometimes it just seems like we swap them around, caretakers for a time, then pass them on. Gotta try 'em all out and see which ones stick I guess. Most important thing is to keep a gun money stash available and jump quick if you really like something. Tim

My best deals have come from non-handgun sites. A couple of dandy's from AR, for example.

Watch your PMs. Still have not spent enough time with this to wring out its potential. So far some bulk 115 gr hollow points. Even had it in the " move along" line awhile back. Finally have a Alan Harton project in his hands as of yesterday! Thank you Fermin!

What good is an addiction without enablers?

Crimp that bad boy in the second crimp groove. Remember the Super is Semi Rimmed so you CAN roll crimp! Back in the day the optimum powder we found for Super 38 with heavy bullets was WW540 nowadays known as HS6. Those cylinder mouths need to be precisely measured of course. I'll bet you end up with a dandy trail gun that will leave a 38 special choking in the dust.
