Like the title says 41 special.... Was just curious if anyone's rechambered a Smith for it?

I have a 586 at Bowens being converted, it's been over a year so I'm hoping to see it soon. Ronnie

Like the title says 41 special.... Was just curious if anyone's rechambered a Smith for it? HAMILTON DID THE FIRST .41 SPECIALS (COLT SAA, RUGER FLAT-TOP BLACKHAWK, AND 586) FOR ME 25 YEARS AGO. WHAT K-FRAME FIVE-SHOOTER DO YOU THINK YOU CAN RE-CHAMBER TO .41??? GARY REEDER IS NOW OFFERING THE "PERFECT PACKIN' PISTOL" IN .41 SPECIAL.

Was just curious if there was enough revolver in a tuckered out k38 masterpiece to rechamber to a 41 special ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I've read and re-read your articles on the 41 Mr Taffin and really enjoyed them as well as your other writings.....

I've also got a Andy Horvath OMBH in 41 special, one of his little Rugers. Ronnie ![](http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad261/ronnieg97866/tempttation/Horvath%2041/DSC03768_zps8a1f2442.jpg) ![](http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad261/ronnieg97866/tempttation/Horvath%2041/DSC03825_zpsf217cb40.jpg)

I use Mr. Taffin's loads in my .41 specials. Had a Clements GP100 conversion and still have a Harton Single Six. Been talking to Jack Huntington about doing one on a K-frame but it's not a cheap proposition. Would require a 5 shot cylinder. Much more reasonable on anL frame gun and you get the extra shot. ![](http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa321/Bushog/PB290029.jpg) ![](http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa321/Bushog/target.jpg)

I've read and re-read your articles on the 41 Mr Taffin and really enjoyed them as well as your other writings..... THANK YOU FOR THE KIND WORDS! YOU COULD PROBABLY DO A .41 SPECIAL ON A K-38 BUT IT CANNOT BE RE-CHAMBERED. YOU WOULD NEED A NEW FIVE-SHOT CYLINDER. YOU WOULD BE BETTER OFF STARTING WITH A 586/686.

The .41 special would make a lot of sense in a CA Bulldog, for those invested into the .41 bore. It's at its limit in .44special. I don't have a dog in the .41 bore hunt myself, just pondering...

cmh.... the K-frame makes for a borderline .357 Magnum, which ammunition can spring a chamber, or spit out a gas ring that is not swaged into a counterbore in the cylinder. Not much room for fat holes between yoke hole and diameter of cylinder. Not to mention potential for cylinder float from heavy bullet recoil in modest .38 frame. Stick with a stock M-19 or M-66 and deep seat some soft cast 200 grain hollow points, or cup points, or a 180 wadcutter at .38 pressure in the .357 case----that's a belly gun.
Haven't looked at one, but a Ruger SP 101 or similar five-shot might have enough meat in the cylinder for a modest .41 cartridge. David Bradshaw

Well..... Have some good advice from folks I respect and admire so think I'll fix the k38 into a nice shooter and find a better platform for a 41 special. Thanks gentlemen ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

cmh, what's tired on that old Masterpiece? The barrel? BTW, you lot are giving me unholy thoughts that center on finding a reasonably priced (aka stupid cheap) Model 28 and having it bored to .41... ![(:))](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/ninja.png)
