I've been sort of trying to piece together a chronological sequence of Single Actions other than Colts and Rugers, dates etc. I know sort of about the Great Westerns. My question is how long did the Hy Hunter banner last before becoming Hawes? My own is marked as a "Hy Hunter" and made by J.P. Sauer & Sohn.

I think about 1966 or 67. The JP Sauer single actions are not bad at all, but the best you can say about Hy Hunter Inc is that he played fast and loose with import requirements. He imported a lot of other sketchy handguns and was under DOJ scrutiny. He had to relinquish the business, it was retitled to one of his associates, Martha Hawes. Hawes was prosperous I think until 1980 or so, when Sauer dropped the single action to become Sig Sauer, then Hawes dissolved.
