I bought this Hy Hunter Western Six Shooter about a year ago or so. In addition to being marked as such, it is marked "J.P.Sauer & Sohn /Suhl, Western Germany" in two lines. The gun has the Christy type firing pin, is blue steel with trigger guard, backstrap, and ejector rod housing ZAMAK. In reading of the post on the Herter's 22SA I find Sauer & Sohn never made revolvers but farmed them out. Who then would have made this? Bob Wright

That's news to me , I was always under the impression Sauer made the large frame guns and farmed out the .22's? Just a guess but Weihrauch would be one place to look. They seem to have done a lot of behind the scenes manufacturing. Wow, where has that one been the last 40 years, it looks new. The last one I had retained 0% finish and was 100% patina,,, but still shot great.

JP Sauer built the large frame ones with Hawes / Hy Hunter / Herters trade names. Small frame German .22s sold by those same companies were built by Herbert Schmidt, Reck, maybe a few others.

I found this gun in a pawn shop awhile back and the price was too good to pass up. Incidentally, looks this way now: I had a few parts for an Uberti and som scrap walnut, so decided to try my hand. The JP Sauer/Hawes marked 22's were the same size as the 44mags but built from alloy with steel lined cylinder and barrel.
