Thanks for all the info guys. I've pretty much decided to go with the Les Baer Boss; the idea of building on a Colt became less appealing as I started to price out custom work, particularly factoring in the cost of a clean, older Colt. For scratching this particular itch, I think Baer is the way to go.

I actually got married wearing a 1AT Milt Sparks rig, complete with matching belt and double mag pouch. All worn under my tux jacket, over my wranglers... wore my then duty/ IPSC gun, a custom COLT 70 series.. Still have the gun, the rig and the bride!

I have a Baer too, along with custom 1911s from the standard makers, colt, kimber, Springfield Armory.
Without question, the Baer, economically, is the smart way to go, when it comes to cost to performance ratio.
