smirker.... Sierra .44 210 JHC ( Jacketed Hollow Cavity) over 26/296 or H110 is about maximum for Smith M29/629. Very accurate and once upon a time considered it for closer targets in silhouette, but it could not displace supreme trust in Sierra 240 JHC and Federal's look-alike 240 JHP. Core contains a bit of antimony; bullet does not expand quite so fast as the old Hornady 200 JHP and 240 JHP, both excellent deer bullets. (I consider Nosler .44 200 JHP and 240 JHP the heirs apparent of the old Hornady JHP, right down to the appearance and pure lead core.)
Hercules or Alliant 2400 might also yield excellent burn and accuracy. Velocity as usual dependent on barrel length, chamber exits, forcing cone and, last but not least, cylinder gap.
To get velocity from a four inch barrel, the Ruger Redhawk rules the roost. Not sure whether you refer to S&W or Ruger 4-inch. Going to 4-3/4" in the Freedom Arms M83 yields high velocity due to all around dimensional firmness. David Bradshaw
