I recently stumbled on to an old model Super Blackhawk for sale that wore a MR-3BD brass grip frame. The gun was in pretty nice shape with just a faint turn line that didn't even go all the way between the bolt notches and just the slightest hint of blue pitting on the base of the front sight.
The original plan was to use the gun for a another conversion with the brass grip frame going down the road ( probably to the black hole like the rest of the MR-3BD's). For some reason I decided to call the folks at Ruger and lo and behold, the gun shipped from the factory in Sept of 1972 with the brass frame factory installed. As many of you know, I am more of a converter than a collector but I guess this one gets to stay just the way it is. ;D A letter verifiying this wi on it's way. The gun even has a neat palindrome (sp) serial number.
Dang it, I hate it when common sense and history get in the way of my plans! By the way, living proof that pawnshops don't always know what they have or don't care.
Hey Carl, what would the correct box for this gun look like and be labeled as?

I was curious if that was to be the case. I guess I don't get the frame anymore huh?

Now guys..... This thing sounds like a "collector" gun.... You know we don't "collect" Do check out what the "Collectors" will pay for these beasts though! Most current run of RENE says $1500 for a 80- prefix Verified brassie SBH... With a good base gun in hand that will be a good jump on a fullout custom! ;D

You guys know I can't hang on to this thing. It will eventually be posted over on the RF for those collector guys. I don't want to do what I normally do to a gun like this so it will have to find a new home soon.

While I do literally abhor the term "Collection" and have abnormal aversion to the title "collector" I can't argure the fact that I have a bunch of OM Rugers with a significant number of those being 44 bore...... Makes it look like an original brassie could potentially find a home here... When you put a price on that jewel PM me before you post it for the Ruger boys.... Doesn't mean that I can afford it but you never know...

Trade? Based on working with the Dawgs on a trade it looks like we may need a significant change in magnetic flux for any kind of trade to happen... Of course there is evidence in the earth's crust of magnetic pole shifts on a regular cycle. I think we are expecting a pole shift any day now....

That is an understatement Carl. Really I have you and the rest of the guys like WMG and Radical Rod on your forum to thank for even thinking about calling Ruger. I would have never thought of it on my own.

Oh, and I forgot to answer your box question. The box was NOT marked with any sort of mention of the brass grip frame. Only the cardboard "shipping carton" or "bookwrap" would have had a hand lettered B after the model number, i.e. S-47B.
