my 257 Special Ruger "single" was a stainless gun, but it has a chrome moly barrel & cylinder... which when in the white match nicely with the finish of the stainless gun... however I'm getting light surface rust & rusty finger prints showing up on the non stainless parts, so I'm guessing it's time to give up the gun for a while for some metal finishing... I'm thinking about high polish blue on the cylinder & barrel, & leaving the rest stainless, or having the whole gun nickel or hard chromed... looking for suggestions... I'm not sure how the stainless will take the plating ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) I either want the gun one color, or definitely 2 toned, I don't think I want to finish the cylinder & barrel with nickel, & not plate the stainless if there will be a slight color difference thoughts or suggestions welcome...

Cerekote or similar they do multicolors in different layers and it protects well. Going to do the pinto blued metal refinish in midnight blue. ![](http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/ab48/medicdave/single%20six%20chop/959BDCE6-7AFA-4048-ADA9-F42D642F7EEC_zps6501fxjk.jpg)

thanks for the suggestion... I had not thought about a coating like that on a single action revolver... ( I supposed it's not any different than the alloy framed 22's ) I'd be curious how your project comes out... I also have an old H&R folding shotgun, that I customized, by shortening the barrel to the same length as the stock, when folded ( yup, still plenty long for legal ) this is with the added a Poly Choke on it, & a fiber optic front bead... I still need to do cosmetic / rust resistant coating so it can ride around the truck & not worry about it growing the "brown fuzzies"

Not real traditional, but doesn't look bad and it's tougher for a working gun than bluing. Local guy quoted less than $100 bucks to do the blue parts of this one. Need to finish getting the billboard off the barrel and it will be headed over. ![](http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/ab48/medicdave/single%20six%20chop/615AA2C3-A4A3-4496-980B-0F8EAC22D46F_zpsgdzyfucj.jpg)

Mine would be almost opposite if I Blued the barrel & cylinder & left the rest stainless...

They have quite a few silver shades that could match your stainless as well, or could shoot the whole gun one color.

Not sure about all platers, but mahovsky's metalife will cover everything evenly.
I know some refinishers can blue stainless.

well, I took the gun to the same shop that did my lil S&W #2 snubbie... they couldn't guarantee the nickel over the stainless, so my options at this shop, was to blue the barrel & cylinder, or Duracoat... I opted not to paint this one & chose high polish blue on the cylinder & barrel, even though final cost is $75.00 more now I'm looking for some new grips, maybe black micarta or ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png)

I'd love a set of buff horn grips... even better if I could get silver & black medallions on them... I have a nice set of birdshead on my Montado snubbie ( my avatar gun )
just checked saw some used for Blackhawk... but didn't find too many... yet... I'll have at least a 2 month wait( that's what they told me on my lil S&W, & that turned into 6-7 months )... so I have a while to look...
the single 10 should have the same grip frame as the single six??? & that is the XR3-red frame right???

Yup that's a red. Search under seller:firearmgrips. He rotates through what he has listed, but I've seen him list everything except bisleys. Medallions are only a 1/2" forstner bit away.

Actually I found a set of buff grips... lightly used, with medallions, with a make an offer, & the seller accepted my offer, so I guess I already have grips... ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ![](http://i1342.photobucket.com/albums/o762/MagnumWheelMan/buffmedalliongrips_zpsbf86417e.jpg~original)

got my buff horn grips, they are pretty nice fore used... could maybe use a few spots polished down, to look new, but over all, very nice... I imagine I have quite a wait on the revolver, as they blue in batches, & have to wait till they have their 20-40 gun quota for batch of bluing,,,

No fun waiting, but the buff looks nice. Looking for something to stick these onto. ![](http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/ab48/medicdave/Gun%20parts/7071362D-8977-4E81-A6CF-E413CF053335_zpse3ozgkep.jpg) ![](http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/ab48/medicdave/Gun%20parts/178A1A91-B0F3-4866-B278-DE864B48C170_zpsfpfech1u.jpg)
