I have enjoyed my H&R Handi-rifle immensely and have been very impressed with the quality the gun displays for the price: so, I returned mine to have a 12 gauge rifled slug barrel fitted. I spoke to the folks at H&R and was assured they had the barrels in stock, so off it went on MAY 5th with a check... their site lists a 2-4 week turn around time. Its still there. As of today they cannot say when they will have the barrel for it or when it will be returned... every time I have called to check on it I have been told to "check back in a couple of weeks". Got a supervisor today who told me it would be the end of this month at the earliest. I also asked for a 45 colt barrel... they're discontinued. I'm not impressed. While the folks I have talked to have been courteous, none of them seem much interested in getting things done or even trying to find out what the hold up is. I told them I'm not much interested in any more barrels. So, sent may 5th, check cashed may 10th, no info other than what I have managed to drag out of them by calling every so often.

It boggles my mind that it has been 11 years since I did my Handi-Rifle project.
At least in 1998, NEF was making one run of barrels per caliber a year. So if they make the Hornet barrels in January and sell out within a month, PLUS you send in your rifle in March, well, figure on it being there a while.
If I were to do one now, I'd buy the rifle, figure out all the barrels I wanted, bite the bullet money wise and order them all at once, send in the rifle, and not figure on seeing it for a while.

I'm thinking from here on in its simply easier to buy each barrel with its own frame... its a great little rifle. I guess Marlin bought out H&R, and now Remington is involved too?

Thats my plan... STILL no rifle and no word from H&R. May 5th til now, and if I hadn't called them I wouldn't know anything about it, other than my check was cashed.

Called again, still no word. I give up. Told them to ship the frame back and give me a refund. Its a shame, as they're good guns... but either they don't get that customer service is just as important as building a good product, or they just don't care.
