Some background: I'm getting married in March, 2015, to a great woman who's been shooting since she could hold a gun in her hand. She's shot IHMSA for years with her Dad and has a brace of guns (including a sweet Wichita 7BR) for that game, along with a S&W M37 for carry but what she doesn't have (yet) is a 1911, or an engraved gun. I figured I could solve that problem She's set to finish her Ph.D in physics this summer, so for a graduation/engagement present I traded in a safe-queen 1911 for this Kimber Eclipse. I then took it out to a local engraver I've used before, Tony Frost: www.tonyfrost.com/ I gave him a sketch and some rough ideas and this is what he returned: I couldn't be happier with how this turned out. The lettering in particular just flows with the cocking serrations and the overall look of the slide. Those letters aren't her initials... yet The scroll is just the right balance as well. Had to get a picture out in the vineyard to show off the Eclipse finish Kimber puts on these guns. It shows every fingerprint and oil spot, but when it's clean it really shines.

A doctorate AND a shooter? Seems to me like she and the Kimber are both keepers! Congratulations!

Congratulations! A physicist and a shooter. And I'll bet she's a knockout, too! GREAT idea for a personalized gift, by the way. Kudos to you.

That looks great! If Tony is local to you, then you and I are pretty close.
Is that your vineyard? Chardonnay?

That's my Dad's vineyard, the grapes are Gamay. I'm in Salem so the drive out to Lafayette to drop off guns for engraving is always nice. Hoping to find a nice place to buy out that way in the next few years.

FYI, McMinnville has about the cheapest electricity rates in the country... lots of homes going up in Lafayette, though.
