I have had two colt commanders including my current lt commander, that failed to fired because of the firing pin safety. I have a kimber 1911 ftf because of the firing pin safety. My browning high power has ftf twice now because of the firing safety. Today a varmint got away while I was trying long range shot and all I got was CLICK. I'm not going to buy another auto that has a firing pin block.

Pull it out. I've done that to a few and they function just fine. One being a .45 I shot IPSC with for years. The only thing I did was remove the finger off the lever that engages the block just in case it would catch in the hole after I removed the block.

Never had a paper puncher built with a FP block. Did end up with a few carry type guns with FP blocks. Never had a FP block issue with a personal gun but working as a RSO 2-3 days a week for 17 months has provided me the opportunity to see multiple occurances of failure to fire based on the FP block. As a result I have purged 1911s with FP blocks from my 1911 set. I now make it a point pass on ALL 1911s with FP blocks.

I am correct that the Kimbers with II in the title have the fp block? A 1911 is on my short list and I'm just collecting info at this time.

Sorry for the mild rant. All my fp block issues have been corrected.

Zac0419, most of the kimber II's have the fp block attached to the grip safety. If one has a high thumb grip or doesn't get the grip safety fully compressed the fp won't be released. This is the problem I had with my kimber. There are a few models that don't. I don't know which ones they are.

I have a Super Carry Pro Kimber and it doesn't have the FP safety.

Every Kimber marked with the "II" has the firing pin block. That is what the "II" means.

I have a Kimber Competition Target II that I mentioned on a different thread before that FTF on me a couple of times. I never said what I was doing, but two peoples seemed to know what I was doing when they said to not rest my thumb on the safety

Note that any 1911 with a functioning grip safety will not fire if it is not fully compressed.

Good point on the grip safety. It isn't lack of proper engagement of the grip safety that causes the proplems I've seen. It is the extra parts that lock the firing pin. The hammer falls but the gun does not fire.

I believe the Kimber safety system is a copy of the old Swartz Safety that Colt tried in the 1930's. Worked so good that only its just history trivia. Series 80 Colts can be modified to work with different lifters (Part in Frame that depresses F.P.Block) there's also a technique that can be done to increase the length of the lifter. The lifter not fully depressing the F.P.Block is the most common reason for misfires in the series 80 guns. It is getting harder to find any 1911 guns of recent manufacture that don't have some sort of safety trying to make the gun smarter than the person with the gun. And No, I don't like either of them.

I don't know why you're all complaining. Don't you all read the same articles I do WEEKLY on people dying from negligent discharges from their series 70 guns??! What? You don't? Well, surely those liability lawyers are saving us from ourselves somehow.
Honestly, I hate them too and won't own an automatic with them. I have never had a FTF due to any mechanical issue and I'd like to keep it that way.
