Mr Taffin I was rereading Elmers "Sixguns" again last night and went over the story about the old gunfighter Sam Russell who got 3 yrs in prison for a shooting. Elmer said he traded Sam out of a pair of pearl griped Colt Single Actions and still had them. I know you have seen all of Elmers collection and I was just wondering if they were sill there and are they displayed at the museum?
Thanks Cliff

ELMER WAS A REAL GUN TRADER AND THESE WERE TRADED OFF OR SOLD EONS AGO.

Have read Mike Venturino's articles on gun trading. Seems like he must be at every gun show in Montana. Jim Carmichael seems to be at most of the East Tennessee gun shows.
What other gun scribes are big time gun traders ?
Would you generally describe gun scribes as better than average gun traders ?
Could they teach courses from which the rest of us would benefit ?

IF YOU ARE ASKING ME I RARELY EVER TRADE GUNS. IF THERE IS A GUN I WANT AT A SHOW OR SHOP I TURN DIAMOND DOT LOOSE ON IT. SHE IS THE HORSE TRADER/HAGGLER.

My wife is also the true horse-trader negotiator in our family.
Do you think it is fair to turn lose wives on common gun show traders ?

I think it violates certain provisions of the Geneva & Hague conventions.

John, I don't see you posting a lot lately. I hope everyone there is doing ok or maybe you just don't see much you want to add to. I have worn out all of your old books, just re-read one of them this week. I remember the conversations we used to have back in the 80's when you were still teaching about when you would write your first. My old friend Poncho and I were talking about that charcoal of Elmer his wife did for you this past week. Where did the time Go? You wouldn't be working on a new one would you? I could sure use some good reading material and I know you have at least one more good one left. How about one on custom sixguns only? There should be enough of them out there these days to make an excellent book. Mitch

ONE BOOK IS IN A BOX, ANOTHER IS OUTLINED BUT THE ECONOMY IS IN THE TANK RIGHT NOW. I don't know about others but when I've no money for guns I have enough money for good books. I doubt my opinion counts for much though. Good books might be all we have in 20 years...
