It is really a shame that USFA went out of business...the Shooting Master Series could have been the best SAA ever.
Just got done loading some cast bullets. Both the moulds were group buys over on the Cast Boollet Forum. One was a custom Lee mould that throws a 250 Keith. The other a Mihec that throws a 220 Keith Solid or a 212 Penta-Point. Both are being powered by 7.0 grains of Unique. The rounds fired today were 230 Keiths from Leadhead Bullets also powered by 7.0 grains of Unique.
A 210 cast GC ran just over a 1000 fps from a Ruger BH with a 4 5/8" barrel. The 230 just under 1000. So from this 5.5" barrel they should be running right where I want which is 1000-1100 fps.
I almost had this chambered for .41 Magnum...matter of fact I emailed David to ask he had chambered it yet and he had... Rather than mess with it I just left it as was. Glad I did because I wanted to shoot nothing but Keith style bullets from this and in Magnum cases the nose of the bullet is right even with the end of the cylinder...
Thanks for the nice comments...Bob

Beautiful gun exhibiting Davids usual terrific work. I love the 41 Special as most of the guys here know. Slide it into an old model 357 sized gun with 250 casts and it sets pretty much shoulder to shoulder with the 44 Special with the same weight bullet in my book.

Bob,
Awesome project! A very unique gun now even more unique! Funny how fate intercedes for the best sometimes: I too think the chambering in 41 Short Magnum was a great way to go. I have several USFA sixguns but have never even seen a Shooting Master in person. I shoot a 1911 Ace .22 (the original one with the 4 3/4" barrel, not the 5" Service Ace) with that rear sight and love it.
One question; what was USFA's reason for the longer trigger guard?
Jim

Lucky dog. I had emailed Clements about some USFA work and he said he no longer works on them.
You got a nice piece there.

Lucky dog. I had emailed Clements about some USFA work and he said he no longer works on them. You got a nice piece there. ...and that is what I don't understand either. When I went to his website originally in February of 2013 it said he now only worked on Rugers...but I asked anyway and he said "send it"... In fairness to David the project took a year but it wasn't his fault. He said the gun would be 6-9 months and would have been but the glitch came when the first set of grips arrived from Chisel and Plane and were not to David's liking... By the time the frame was sent back refitted with the grips that are now on there and returned David was into his yearly batch of Ruger Old Army .50 conversions and my gun was put on hold till they were done....which is totally understandable. As to why the larger triggerguard...no clue but I like it. Maybe because this was to be their hunting revolver and wanted to make sure one could shoot it with gloves on... For those of you who can't view the pics over on the CF... With the .22/.22 Mag. Flat Top Target it was made to match... Bob
