I'm getting ready to load up the batch of 385r Mihec .475 hollow points I got from Dick Thompson (thanks Dick!) now that my batch of Starline 480 Ruger brass has arrived. I'm looking for a mid-range load, in the 900-1000fps range. As for powders appropriate for such loads I've got Bullseye, IMR 700X and Unique on hand. I haven't found pistol powder (with the exception of AA 5744 that I use in my .357 Maximum) for sale locally in nearly a year, so those three powders are what I've got to work with for this project. Thoughts? I'll be shooting these from my Ruger Super Redhawk.

Groo here I have the Speer update for 475L --- Good stuff. Also try a full to the base of the Boolet load of Trail Boss . I use it in the 475 for an inside load. Runs in the 800+ range.

Deleted as I just noted 480 brass is being used.
That said, I like Titegroup a bunch in my 475 and 500 Linebaugh's.

Oregon45.
In 475 Linebaugh cases with a 400 grain bullet 12.0 grains Unique will give 1060-1080 fps. Perhaps you may use this to develop a load for your 480. I would suggest a chronograph and start with 8 or 9 grains of Unique. That should get you close to your desired velocity in the 480.
Also, a load of 5744 at 90% load density should yield you about the same target velocity.
I'll see what these load run thru my 475 with 400's and repost. Until then, hope this helps a bit.

I find HS-6 excellent for mid range loads. 900-1100 fps range. in both 475 and 500. for 370 to 440 gr. weights.
