Hello!
I currently have a Uberti 1873 Cattleman in 45LC. Looking for a 44Mag. Thinking about either the Uberti Callahan in 44 Mag or the Pietta 1873 in 44.Mag.
Any thoughts? I am not interested in a Ruger...too modern looking.

I had a Callahan and enjoyed it much. It was a good shooting piece. I wouldn't push one very hard, and if that is your intent, you would be better served by the Ruger.

Does your dislike or dis-want of Ruger include the original Vaquero? It looks somewhat less modern.

I recently bought a Uberti Callahan 7 1/2" Target Model. I have to say it is the most impressively built revolver, dollar for dollar, I have ever owned. It is not a brute strong as the Rugers, MRI BFRs, Freedom Arms and such. It does, however, sport both a barrel gap and headspace of less than .0015", counterbored chambers and general tight tolerances that have to be seen to be appreciated. I have been working on a load that consist of a 240 grn XTP HP bullet and 12.5 grn of HS-6. It produces 1200 fps with about 25,000 CUP. This load will do a lot and let the Callahan live a long productive life. Not a good picture, but...

I own a Uberti. I have to say it surprised in it's quality. That being said it is listed on an auction site. I'll use that money to fund another custom project.

Thanks guys for all the comments. I am going to move forward on the Callahan today. I have never held the gun, but have the Pietta. I wanted something a lttle different rather than just another gun that looks exactly like my other 1873.
I just wish I could find it in 7.5". So, going with the standard length, non target model.

Something seems a little strange abut "a .44 Magnum that's not too modern looking." Bob Wright

I guess it depends on your definition of "modern"

You might try to find a Interarms Virginian Dragoon. Made in both adj sight and fixed sight Strong but more traditional looking than the Ruger BH's.

Hawes Western MARSHAL if you can find one is one of the best bang for the buck in a 44 magnum of the type you seem to be interested in.

I think we should note for the record [ AGAIN!!] here this specically : THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SAA [ Single Action Army ] 44MAGNUM PRODUCTION revolver as this is the name of Colts SA sixguns exclusively and CANNOT be used by anyone else as a name for their SA sixguns. When you say or write SAA that is a COLT period and there is NO other. IF we keep changing all the terminology or faking it as we go pretty because we are too damned lazy to do it correctly, soon no one knows a hoot in hades what you are talking about. No Uberti, no ASM, no Cimarron, NO Ruger NO ETC have or sell a SAA revolver no matter how much they wish it were true, and i have a bunch of 'em too and do NOT hold then in disrepute because they are not of COLT manufacture.
AND ONE MORE TIME : a non-stainless Redhawk in henceforth known as a BLUEHAWK...................................................HA...gotcha
And so it goes...

Colt made their SA in 36 calibers, suposedly. Their SAA in only one, the .45 Colt. If not .45 Colt caliber, it is not a SAA to the purest.

I HEAR YOU, JAYHAWKER. But all of my personal COLT SA SIXGUNS FROM 38spl TO 45COLT say SAA on their barrels, and they have now for half a century. It is mostly folks calling all the other brands ' SAA ' that grates on my gun nerves.
